sounds like maybe one of the incredible machine games, but none of them fit that structure exactly

I've been looking back at footage from Incredible Machine 1, 2 and 3. I even checked out Wikipedia's "similar games" list but none of them are the game I'm thinking of!
I'll try to be a bit more specific. I'm fairly sure it was running on a macintosh. During the platforming/puzzle solving screens I think there were these hot plates that looked like a standard ducted heating grate but with fire coming out of them.
Building a car was a very prominent theme throughout the game, it was all about winning this race or making the car go or something. Now that I think more about it, I'm not sure the mad scientist guy was a rival, he may have been a kind of mentor/instructor. Yeah, this is doing my head in not knowing the name

nope, its not those, they are far too recent. The graphic were very 1994, looking very similar to the original Incredible Machine game

Would love to find the game again one day. I suppose it wouldn't be Blinky?

Oh my gosh, I looked it up and I think it is!! It may be the Atari version in particular (I remember each screen being all one color). Thank you so much for the tip. I wish I could help you find the first person voxel game, it sounds really awesome. If you figure out what it was you should post here again as I'd love to see it!

I'm thinking of a platformer/runner, focused on speed, with a rainbow palette and ms paint graphics. I believe it was by a pair of tigforums regulars about 4 years ago. Spent the last hour searching with no luck

So I had a Kung-Fu game for the NES I had many years ago, can't remember what it was, but it was top down, 2-player co-op, and it had this weird monster that randomly came in on the later stages that would insta-kill any player unlucky enough to be run over by it. You had to take out enough enemies in order to open a portal to the next stage, which was indicated at the top center of the stage with a flashing opening in a gate, and an extremely annoying repetitive sound. (At least while open.)
Found it years ago, but just like a goldfish I can't seem to recollect the name. (Again...)

Indie, play 8(9? 16?) minigames at once, controlling all at once. There was another one where you went on an adventure / puzzle with omni-control. I found http://simogo.com/2012/03/20/16games/ but that's not playable. There's a playable somewhere.

looking for a freeware game that was released around the same time as progress quest (may have even been slightly older actually). it was similar to progress quest (i.e. a mostly non-interactive parody of grinding in MMOs) except it had a big red button you had to click to advance the game, making it the first clicker.

I dunno there was a bunch of these back in the day, there was one on tig with random word, another on tig with a mocked narrative and certainly a full pack of them on newsground ...
