Why do keyboards have caps lock at all? I suppose, there was some kind of need for caps lock when keyboards were invented, but I can't figure what that might have been Usually the key just annoys me ... Edit: Please don't say caps lock was made so that people in MMOs can shout and spam louder messages

The original utility of the key allowed the typing of all caps where appropriate, such as titles at the top of a page, without requiring the typist to manually keep the shift key depressed as long as needed. However, with the advent of modern styling such as small caps and section headers entered only once, this function has depreciated in usefulness.

Edit: Please don't say caps lock was made so that people in MMOs can shout and spam louder messages When there was no fonts you needed capslock to write a title for something. Also many typewriters had capslock too, and pc keyboards descend from typewriters ones And yes, IT'S ALSO FOR SCREAMIN LOLOLOL
