amazing stuff! i love the ugly mofo. (well not him, the model ) Are you experienced in doing lowpoly+normal versions of your models? if so are up for some kind of collaborations? I'd love to code a short but bad ass "next-gen" techdemo using my engine and it could be an awesome portfolio piece and bring attention of the medias

I'd be able to make lower poly stuff fairly easily, but I AM still quite inexperienced I'm afraid and I cant really rig and animate properly in 3D (concentrating more on modeling, sculpting and texturing). So yeah, we can talk about it, but be warned that I'm still a lil bit of a nublet when things get technical. I know how to make decent animatable topology though. Anyway, rambling aside, heres an ogre bust I'm working on. Started using Zbrush, but the render is in blender. Watched a ton of tutorials this week and I feel like I've already learned a hell of a lot more.

uhm, looks a bit like he uses the very same detail normalmap on everything, even on the tooths, maybe makes him look a bit "rocky", especially on the face, but the model is very nice indeed! I think you got some impressive skills already. One of my friends worked on a bunch of CG movies as animator, so that one shouldn't be a problem, he's prone to help I can animate too but i'm surely near as good as him

Not sure what you mean with "looks a bit like he uses the very same detail normalmap on everything, even on the tooths." I guess it looks kinda similar but i assure you they are different maps. I did add a an overall skin pore texture on the normal map, but the veins and a lot of the facial detal and everything is part of the normal map so its definitely not the same as the teeth... anyway here is a new version with a little bit different lighting and some subsurface scattering (which seems to soften out the textures a little but im not sure I quite liked the really hard look...) Anyway I'll talk to you on MSN.

yes sorry, at the start i thought it used two normalmaps, one for the veins and such and a tiled one for the skin details, the new rendering looks a lot more natural even if it looses a bit of detail impressive job so far btw

looks A LOT better the skin on the chest still looks a bit too rough for my tastes (it makes the skin looks almost like the bones) but could be that ogres have a very tick skin but it's truly a minor crit on an awesome piece, congrats! i'd imagine the chest more with reliefs than with micro-holes, a bit like that http://www.pcimagenetwork.com/muscle/p9.jpgloving the work on the face, very detailed, top notch stuff

yeah definitely! a lot more natural i did this sign for my game Actually someone in another forum pointed out i still have a lot to learn about SSS and skin shaders, so i think i'll prolly sit with this one a while longer... As for the sign and its monster, really cute and cartoony! I'd suggest making the outlines of the shadow more consistant, like having the inside of the mouth smoother as well, but I'm guessing that it wont be too big on screen so it probably doesnt matter, or perhaps it looks better with the mouth sharp but in that case i'd suggest hardening the edges of the teeth to make it look more sharp as well. dope sign. i love when people leave brush strokes in their diffuuuuusssseeee. cuuute. i did this once for no reason: *well, actually, i was just on a victorian furniture kick. (louis the 14th technically) Really fancy lookin table mate!
