Maybe if someone other than the person who summoned him takes a weapon he freaks out? You could have the shopkeeper keep his shotgun down normally, and raise it if someone gets near.

I would say that might be a bit too complicated for fast paced play.

Just have him spawn next to a moderate-to-valuable item and if anyone touches it or him he goes berserk.

Yeah, like make him spawn next to something equivalent to the hammer or the health heart in brawl.

Thing is, it's far too easy to accidentally pick up an item. I just don't see this idea turning out to be very much fun.

People will accidentally pick up an item, get shot to death, and swear at the game for being unfair.

We could make him hostile from the start and have him guard the items. He doesn't need to be super powerful.

I like that idea. I can see that working very well.

I was just thinking, what about Skullboy on his Skullpogo?

Other than that, I'll get started on the shopkeeper (does he have a full beard or is that a mustache and some aftershave?)

Kiss for mentioning that, but I'd vote against it.

Why? Well, should we ever finish the game, we'd be hoping for playable character roster  Big Laff

The Pogo would obviously make for a good ^S move.

You're still working on that game! I've been looking forward to it for a LONG time! I was hoping that Skullpogo would blow over (not that it was a bad game, just that Skullboy looks a lot more AWESOME) eventually so that you could finish it. When will you release a demo?

Anyway, I finished the head of the shopkeeper and I absolutely LOVE how it came out. I'll make the body and post it soon.

Edit:

I LOVE the head except for one thing: I'm not sure if that looks enough like it does in Spelunky. Nonetheless I hate the body and am going to try to redo it.

They both look good, but Veo's is more recognizable as the shopkeeper.

Agreed: I can look at Veo's and think "shopkeeper", while I have to try hard to (mentally) make Goodbye's fit.

Veo's is better, but the clothes don't sit right with me. I pictured him with different clothes.

Yeah, I had trouble interpretting the original sprite from Spelunky so Veo's is definitely better. (except I'm pretty sure he didn't have a red nose.)

Well, my computer sucks and it often makes red things black (LOL, black nosed Spelunker all of the time!) The only reason I could tell that Veo's sprite is red nosed instead of black nosed is because I know that Spelunker's nose is supposed to be red.

Anyway, I was going to draw the damsel until I learned her dress was red...it is red, right?

Yes, it is red.  Someone already drew the Damsel elsewhere, which we may or may not chose to use:
I am aware that any and all sprites posted and/or submitted are in no way shape or form guaranteed to be liked, used, or otherwise noticed.
Edit: I actually wasn't expecting anything I've made so far to be used-I came her so that some of the awesome spriters for this awesome game could help me get better so that eventually, I could help this project too.

I'm kinda bored of her now, gonna go do Asha.

Slick edit, but missing the damsel's Marilyn Monroe hairdo. May fix that later.

Now that I look at it, it looks a lot like my dad... Droop

But nonetheless I think it's perfect except for one thing: the shotgun. Of course we should wait till we get the body sprite approved before that.
