Worming Deathhello, all, i'd like to talk today about a game i'm going to try and release by this week or the next. i've been working on this since 2008 and i think it's ready for beta.
What is this game?it's an rpg/platformer at its core. it follows the "metroidvania" blueprint. i wanted to make a game as large as cave story: that had the depth and the length of amaya's awesome original.
What makes it special?you can play through the game as a corpse in the World - acquiring items and upgrades and skills - but if you die you're sent to Hell. Hell is a sort of mirror world. both worlds have an outcome and both can be played from start to finish. once you are sent to Hell you cannot go back.
designing this was difficult, i didn't know how to retain the permadeath. i mean, a player could just restart from a save point, right? so while playing in the World, you'll notice that save points occur once per area (at the start). this makes playing as a corpse very challenging. in the end it'll boil down to the player's decision.
Plot?the Spirits of the dead use a corpse to fight back against a tyrannical god.
