Messing with the textures, trying to go more painterly. The water's probably too colorful: More on the paths, too:

I think the path is a bit too red - make it more dark brown-ish, I think. The water's colorful, but it could be cool if it were transparent. Otherwise, perhaps less colors would be good.

I agree with Gabriel. I would consider making the path less detailed altogether. If you make the background elements less busy, important things like characters or items can be made to stand out by giving them a relatively high amount of detail or contrast. And it gives the eyes somewhere to rest.

I see what you mean about the business. I'm currently phasing out all of those little terraces along the walls in favor of simpler meshes.

By the way if you want some ideas and tips for composition you should definitely check out the Temple of Seven Golden Camels. Great stuff.

Thanks guys. As you may have seen in the 3D Thread, I've begun working on Highmill itself: It consists of three spiraling towers with a number of main floors. On that inside area through the arches, there will be a smaller pillar of buildings all stacked upon each other, as well as a few on some chunks of ground that are floating about. Hopefully it'll be entertaining to navigate.

Started working on trees by hand, rather than using Unity's tree creator.

Also yusssss. Spent most of today fixing up the base for that area of Highmill and getting it in-game. Still have to make the pillars of buildings and floaty ground chunks, among other things.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I kind of wish you'd scale the overall scope of the game down to an ongoing series of 1-2 hour episodes/chapters so that: 1. We could experience this content. 2. You could get some exposure. 3. You could iterate on the gameplay/graphics/engine based on user feedback while still building your world and community.

Aye, I was going to do that originally. The only issue is that I have doubts about my ability to not get burnt out randomly and become unable to maintain a consistent release schedule.

I don't think you would need to have a consistent release schedule at this point. Just release them when they are ready until you've got a good pipeline established, or you've built up a good fan base to where you can make some money via donations or something.

Look, the artstyle is great and reminds me a lot of the Tales series and reminds me of old-school PSX/earlyPS2 graphics.
But I mostly wanted to comment on your avatar. If that is you, mad-fucking-props. Digging that grizzly beard, brother!
