Welcome! This is my first ever game that is not a joke game, so please don't instantly flame and if you criticize, don't go "THIS GAME IS CRAP!!!!" but explain what should be changed and/or fixed.

64pixels!
(formerly craftr)

0.0.1 alpha multiplayer testing.

craftr64pixels is a little game I'm making. It's at an early stage (I finished multiplayer today lol), but I think it's already fun at this point.

It's actually a sandbox with an almost-infinite world (2 billion characters in every direction!).
What's the point of the game? Make a world out of text! You can also create electronics and even BATTLE TO THE DEATH (with bullets). Oh, and there's multplayer!

Tutorial
The interface is a bit complex so just get here.

If you're too lazy to read, just get here.
Game website: http://64pixels.org.
PLAY NOW: http://64pixels.org/play.html!
IRC channel: #64pixels @ EsperNet (irc.esper.net)

Server info
Servers are hosted rarely (if ever) but you can always host your own! I host mine from time to time (get me on IRC if it's not up) and Svetlana also hosts one!
Hint: the port used is 25566 by default.

I hope your comments are constructive. Feel free to check out the game!

<asiekierka> it's a fun, little sandbox where you make a giant world out of ASCII characters.
<Pierog> Please post so i can get my "It's shit" post ready

This is pretty neat! If Minecraft has taught us anything, it's that collaboratively making stuff online with friends is lots of fun!

A few wishlist items from my short experience:
  • Ability to paste in an IP address
  • Ability to resize the window / go fullscreen
  • Ability to customize my player's name
  • The chat window stays up after you've written a message, so you need to hit ESC to go back to the main editing mode. This can be dangerous because ESC also quits the game. Smiley

EDIT: The first one has been added in 0.0.1.1!

EDIT: The second one has been added, as predicted, in 0.0.2!

EDIT: The third one is fixed! ESC does not quit the game anymore.

Ok, serious mode.

What I'd change is how input is handled. Right now if i hold left, it does one movement, then it pauses until the OS repeat triggers. If you remove that pause the movement would seem a lot more fluid.

This is pretty neat, looking forward to seeing stuff done with it Smiley

Color and character selection is somewhat better now- it can still be improved, though (select foreground color with left mouse button and background with right, maybe?)

0.0.2 update: NICKNAMES!
You MUST redownload the server!
NEW: Block history menu! Press B!
NEW: WSAD mode! Just add "wsad-mode=1" to the config.txt file!
(the config.txt is in C:\Documents and Settings\username\.64pixels or C:\Users\username\.64pixels or /home/username/.64pixels)
NEW: Nicknames! Your server can now have nicknames! (run server with /a to disable this)
NEW: Server parameters! Run server with /h to find them all!
FIX: The server wouldn't make chunks over 1KB send, crashing clients.
FIX: When a window is open, you can't "see" the players through.
MISC: Some minor keyboard improvements.

Huzzah for massively multiplayer online creative games!  We should make a club.

Keep up the good work.   Wink

Thanks! I will check out Infinite Blank as soon as I can.

Anyway, 0.0.2.1 release!
No need to redownload the server.
NEW: You can now input much longer chat messages! They are automatically split
NEW: In the lower-right corner of the char and color menus are special numbers which you can use for modding!
FIX: A bugfix where typing in chat while in WSAD mode could make you move.

Also, there is a Modding section on the site now!
And here's rough information on how to use the game.
<asiekierka> B - block history
<asiekierka> T - chat
<asiekierka> arrows - walk around
<asiekierka> mouse - place (left), remove (right), copy (middle) mouse buttons
<asiekierka> mouse - use the bar at the bottom to change the block's specifics

What would be awesome is the ability to create moving objects.  You could create some sort of programming language for the functioning of the objects (similar to the ZZT and MegaZeux you mentioned before) and we can program and create objects and place them in there to perform their designated actions.

That is far, far away in my roadmap, but it is planned.

Anyway, 0.0.3! You now have opping, banning, setspawning, teleporting, MADNESS

You have to redownload the server!
NEW: Ops! Bans! Kicks! Teleports! Check "help.txt" in the server download.
NEW: You can now have much longer chat messages.
FIX: Fixed a bug in the server and the client where using a map chunk size other than 64 could cause erratic behaviour.
FIX: Fixed a bug in the client where when the spawn point was changed, not all chunks would be downloaded.

EDIT: Redownload the server again, a /setspawn-related bug has been fixed.

Really good.
All we need are some blocks that interact in some ways, or even multiple floors of building, for houses and stuff.
(and yes, I diiiig the sandbox/freeroam games)

It's done (the interacting blocks) just a bit buggy (Crossuh is), I just don't update the thread as next to nobody reads it.

It's updating time! I realized people still care about this game (thank you Ashkin) and so I've decided to refresh the thread.
