Making a small platforming game and trying to make the maincharacter, but I am having trouble deciding what size it should be plus what kind of shading I should use. I kinda like keeping my things simple looking. I really like the last one because of how the head shape and the tapering on it is going on around the feet as well. It'd be cool to introduce a darker shade of blue with lower saturation to give it a celshaded look. Mock up environment for a project in hiatus Main character for a top-down zelda-type of game where you pick pockets. In Edward Gorey style.

If I'm reading that right, the whitish bit is elevated and casting a shadow in the other bits? I think it could use some diagonal edges to better convey how the shadow is being cast
Sounds good, like so- ? Looks better. I think the one remaining thing is that corner of the shadow at the top right seems to be originating from the top of the ledge rather than its base. On top of that the character is fully shadows even when it's taller than the walls
Thanks! back to hiding and working on this

Something like this? Well see about the size though. The current collisions I use right now doesnt really like sprites which is over 32 pixels high for some reason.

stop outlining everything like that it looks grosssssss the sprite is cute but holy fr***********************************ck
use a solid outline or no outline at all, there is no combination of the two that looks even remotely decent

okay then let me reword that
unless you like really know what you're doing, you generally only harm your work by trying to do it

@holy that's fine and dandy, personal preference is maybe the pattern could have followed the pixel closely to reinforce a knit effect, but that's not necessarily a good idea so whatever.

Thank you, sir. Honestly, I'm really glad that school (sort of) forces me to do my own art. I feel like I'm getting enough practice to eventually excel at it.
