After releasing BOH, I've been asked quite a number of times when I would create another game (it looks like, being for C64, QUOD INIT EXIT didn't count), and my answer has always been "dunno" (quite fittingly, in Italian it translates as "boh").
Well, with this first blog post of mine I'm happy to announce that the answer has changed! On the very last day of 2010 an idea struck me and I just couldn't resist, so I started working on a new game with the aim of getting as much as possible done in the shortest time possible, since I might be soon unable to develop for a while.

So, here is the very first screenshot of Huenison (the picture says "Colorfalls", but that's been changed because later I found out that "Colorfall" had already been used for some other game):

For now, I'll leave it to your imagination guessing what the game is about...
Stay tuned, more is to come Wink

Two more screenshots, but let me first explain some basic details about the game...

So, as you might have guessed, we have bricks falling from the top. When they reach the bottom, they accumulate. Anybody said "Tetris"? Yeah!
Then, we have a little cannon on top of the accumulated bricks. By controlling it, you shoot at the bricks to destroy them. Anybody said "Space Invaders"? Yeah!
Bricks are of various kinds and colors. To hit a brick, you must shoot a same-colored beam. Each kind of brick reacts in its own way. Anybody said "Vital Light"? Yeah!

Enough for now. There's more, but I'll add details in the following posts. Now, on to the screenshots...

Here the "left" variant of the "bladebox" brick got destroyed, and it fired a row of blades that destroy* the bricks they touch. Anybody said "Bomberman"? Yeah!

Here the "ballbox" brick got destroyed, and it freed a rebounding ball that destroys* the bricks it hits. Anybody said "Arkanoid"? Yeah!

*This is going to change: collisions will be treated as normal hits.

More to follow soon...

Where does the name Huenison come from?

It's a wordplay: hue + unison. It refers to the fact that bricks are hit only when colors match.

Kinda hard to pronounce the title if you don't know how it came to be :D

Looking forward to how your game mechanics will turn out! :D

Uhm, let me try to understand how problematic the issue is...
How did it sound? Any (other) native English speakers here who would pronounce it differently from how it's meant to be spoken?

Thanks for the feedback. If I see that the pronunciation is generally mistaken, I'll consider thinking of another name.

I first read it as huay-nisan, I like the title though, I think if you could make the logo show that the hue part is separate from nison that would help, maybe even something as simple as having hue be a different color or weight... huenison huenison huenison hue|nison hue-nison

XRA & John Sandoval: good suggestions. What about having "Hu" and "nison" well separated, with "e" used for a transition effect? Or I could even use "u" for the transition, as that's actually the shared letter: Huenison (just to give the idea).
I'll keep everything in mind for when the time of creating a logo will come.

I read it as Huay-nison as well, so this seems to be a problem.
Húnison? I guess that downplays the hue aspect.  I guess that John Sandoval's is probably my favorite.

OK, it's clear that it isn't easy to read. If some day a better name crosses my mind, I'll ditch "Huenison".

On the other hand, that downplays the "unison" aspect Undecided

Well, enough for now about the name. And time to go to bed. Next update due tomorrow...

I think you should have an animated title where the word unison is there, then the U moves over, the H and E come in, and they fade to the colours in John's post.
