Basically i'm just sick of all these medieval fantasy RLs.

A few ideas:

Submarine roguelike

A disgraced Victorian naval officer steals a tub and goes hunting through undersea caves in search of the lost city of Atlantis. Along the way he must salvage resources from long-forgotten shipwrecks and survive encounters with undiscovered predators, twirling his moustace wildly all the while.

Potential unique features

-Oxygen management
-Large submarine unable to fit tight spaces
-Occasional diving on an air-pipe leash
-Some z-axis movement within levels (eh.. maybe not)
-Gentlemen (no rogues)

Lassie, the roguelike

Oh no, poor little Timmy is lost in the old abandoned mineshaft! Lassie must go down to save him while avoiding a multitude of hazards such as floods, fires, cave-ins, criminals, rabid animals and other children in distress. Maybe even the odd rolling boulder trap. Lassie must then guide the poor lad back out again.

Potential unique features

-Combat-free
-Woof
-Woof
-Woof

Wild west roguelike

<insert name> was but a humble farmer until a gang of bandits kidnapped their family and burned down the homestead. Now they must travel from town to town collecting bounties or robbing banks in order to raise to the $50000 needed to pay the ransom and buy back their family.

Potential unique features

-Almost entirely played on the overworld
-Mostly gun-based skill system
-Firing from cover
-Railroads
-Swinging saloon doors

The first one is pretty much an assured win.

Oh, got another one!

RL, the RL (real life, the roguelike)

You begin on the ground floor of Ink inc., your employer and the office of the biggest printer cartridge manufacturer in town. You are underpaid and under-appreciated but with a dream to one day be the assistant deputy manager of this particular branch of the company. In order to do this you must appease your higher-ups to be allowed onto the next floor and rung on the corporate ladder. Do this by launching TPS reports at them! Payrise!

Potential unique features

-Manage stress or have a heart-attack
-Task based rather than stabbing based gameplay
-Skills may include graphcraft or public speaking

The submarine one would be awesome. Do make plz.
The Wild West one would be cool, too. I especially like firing from cover.

Are there any mystery RLs?
if not...

Mystery RL

You are a private eye hired to investigate a string of murders in the esteemed Catoble Hotel. You must talk to the staff and residents to discover horrible secret behind the happenings. Floor-by-floor, you make your way to the roof where the answer awaits.

Potential unique features

-Heavily dialogue-based
-Important characters
-Branching story
-Characters with schedules

Yeah, that sub idea is awesome!  I like this thread, because I love roguelikes and I've always wanted to make one.  I'll throw some ideas out there:

Giant Monster RL

Also known as Rampage: the Roguelike.  You play a giant monster ("kaiju") like King Kong or Godzilla.  Each level is a town where the "walls" are buildings and the like.  Destroy a certain % of the town to advance to the next one.

- Choose from a variety of monster types, each with their own special needs and powers
- Battle cops, soldiers, tanks, helicopters, and other monsters!
- Destroy the hell out of crap

These ideas would make me take up Roguelikes again- other than ADOM, Aliens and Doom, that is.

Also, someone make Submarine RL. Please. Aquatic Genlemen with air-pipe leads. THE ROGUELIKE. In fact, Aquatic Genlemen with air-pipe leads The Anything would be guaranteed genius.

I've thought about a Western RL before. It'd be hot.

[EDIT] BTW anybody looking for original rogulike(ish) games, should check ZZT/ megazeux

Submarine roguelike
-Gentlemen (no rogues)

So... a gentlemanlike?

That submarine roguelike sounds like a damn sweet idea, though. Also Sims - The roguelike?

E3- The Roguelike

Journey back to an age of chaos and power, where moneyhats were plentiful and booth babes roamed the great plains of the Los Angeles show floor. Attain glory and appease the Great Interwebs by gathering information about the hottest new games... by any means necessary.

-Play 5-minute demos and watch pre-rendered videos to obtain the highly prized information
-Booth babes
-Rudimentary stealth system to steal info before your rivals- or to remove them from the competition entirely
-Booth babes
-...Did we mention booth babes?

Are there any survival RL's? Probably, but just in case:

Survival RL

You're a stupid tourist who got detatched from your group, and found yourself lost completely in the jungle/desert/desert island/artic/alien planet. With how cheap the tourism company was you find it'd be more likely for cheeseburguers to rain from the sky than they coming to search for you.

Survive!

Features:
  • Wild animals! Kill or be killed!
  • More than one survivor. Cannibalism!
  • Find the right sources of water.
  • Desinteria! Diahrea!
  • Sleep on the flea/ant/mosquito infested areas.
  • Fight insanity!

Hobo RL

Wander between towns, trying to get enough to eat (scavenging in dustbins, begging and eating dubious wild berries), do odd jobs and try to earn the respect of the townsfolk, get chased by dogs and moved on by the police, learn hobo secrets from long-bearded fellows.

I'm already about 2% into making it! However, it's been shelved for a while and is pretty likely to mutate into something else soon...

Heh, I thought just about all RLs were survivors, albeit in a more fantasy setting. Watch what you eat, where you rest, and what you use, or a small slip up could be the end of you.

What about DIET-RL
It's like a survival except you have one month to become slim.
Don't ingest bad aliments.
Make sports.
etc...

I'm not sure if it counts but Schiffbruch (http://tigsource.com/articles/2007/07/02/schiffbruch) is randomly generated and tile-based.

I played it, but it's a bit flawed in some areas and a bit too limited.

I want one so detailed I can eat my own arm off to keep from starving.

That would rock so hard.
