Hey guys, this is my first dev log, so bare with me.

Basically, I'm tired of only working on games that I have to keep secret, it's no fun not getting any feedback or being able to accept/include work from friends. So I've decided to make a game that will be playable for free, in browser, and potentionaly on iOS.

Game idea:
similar gameplay to turn based tank games (pocket tanks?) except in 3d, where players can walk and aim then fire one shot, watch where it lands by eye, then adjust thier aim and try again until they get a hit (like Battleship http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship_(game) )

for the look of the game I'm wanting it to look influenced by evangelion and zoids with a cartoon/anime shading.

for starters here's some sketched ideas for the first mech and an enemy (for singleplayer survival mode/iOS mode)





I'll post again when I've finished the 3d asset for the cockpit

the wires of the cockpit, I don't have that much experience with 3d for iOS but i think that poly-count should be fine

This actually sounds like a really good idea. A turn-based first person mech game? Why has that never been done before!

1. 3dsMax can burn in hell. (thats what your using right? Maybe is Maya? Both Maya and 3dsMax can burn in hell.) I'm a blender guy so anything but that just feels wrong and super derpy.
2. Very nice! good game idea!
You should check out Hawken, if you've been living under a rock the past few months and haven't seen it yet. I can imagine the inside of the cockpit view looking like that. Maybe

I approve of your choice of place holder art.

I also really dig the mech design, it reminds me of the jet-like mechs from Macross Frontier but with a more organic shape.

yeah, I've been using evangelion images as backgrounds and references while I work, just to make sure I'm getting the anime style right, I've never done any toon styled games before so I'm still figuring it all out.

here's the first enemy model (survival mode), will hopefully be textured in the next couple of days

might as well show this, i've only just started doing this as i make game arts,

basically a compositional mock-up for knowing what colours to use and how light or dark to make things, they are very nifty for the tiny amount of time they take to make, especially for an unlit/flat game like this one, where what you draw on the texture is exactly what you'l get to screen.

It IS that city from NGE. Frankly, this whole thing is VERY similar...  Concerned

I know it's there for a placeholder, but the designs of everything are so similar.

yeah, I was a bit worried in choosing the purple that people would find it too similar to unit01, it was just the coloured that looked the most right at the time, easily changable, i might post up some alternate colour palettes/themes if it bothers others,
anyway, heres that first monster
