If anyone is planning on doing a Space Hulk knock off I could do some shitty sprites for it.
Oh GOD yes... Regarding Unity FPS tutorials, I've been watching a YouTube series on just that. It seems to be aimed at first time devs, but still good info found there.

Kind of counting out if the player has to shoot. Re-read the rules The 7 dimensions thing is pretty cool looking! But i don't know how to play it :D @Jack Sanders : Unity takes 15 minutes with drag and drop (no code by you) to make a playable FPS 'engine'. Adding some simple gameplay elements using unity components (triggers, colors, etc etc) you could EASILY make something fun in one evening. Even with no prior experience I have seen artists make simple games in one 4 hour lesson. In reality : It's a challenge! You either take the challenge or you don't. You will never know otherwise.

Still figuring out what sort of tech I'll use.
I'm thinking unity but my concept could do perfectly well raycast.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Oh man, this: http://revert3d.blogspot.com/ would be perfect for getting something coherent up quickly. Unfortunately unreleased and in the midst of active development.

@FuzzYspo0N Yes, I'm aware! At this point, though, I think I'm beginning to like the idea of embracing this as a technical challenge rather than a predominantly creative one. So I believe I'll take the difficult route for this if I can.

I think I'll do this. I've never made a FPS before, and it would be a good excuse to learn unity.

Goon : The rules I posted are the rules of the challenge, interpreted however you want.
The rules you posted do not apply.
Wait, that sounds like a paradox! I am allowed to interpret the rules posted but my interpretation doesn't apply even though I can interpret them however I want! My head is about to explode! BOOM! HEADSHOT! Did you intend to make a meta-FPS by blowing my mind? I'll hand out possible FPS game titles for achievement unlocked: R.E.A.R. Crysis in my Pants World of Septic Tanks Deuce Lax: Human Elimination Call of Doody 2: Modern Bedpans Unsanitary Territory: Queef Wars Metal Gear Soiled: Prune Eater

Seasons and I started on a warmup game... not really a game, just an engine. It has your basics: movement, mouselook, shooting, collisions, one enemy. This is made in Game Maker... Going to be a pain. I'm going to (try to) make a primitive level editor the week before it starts, hopefully that will be of some help to others. The goal is a layer system, with each layer being a floor of the level. The goal is to make levels more visually interesting by varying the heights of some platforms. Maybe if I figure out slopes and stuff, it will be cooler...

I've been following the tutorials that Joshua posted. It's the first time I'm using Unity for real, and I'm loving it. I'm absolutely going it for this event and much more in the future when making 3D games.

in addition to Unity there's also ZGameEditor and GameStart3D, if anyone is looking for easy to use solutions for a 3d FPS game.

Any artists want to team-up? I'm thinking Raycaster engine in C++/SDL, although I'd be open to a SIMPLE OpenGL one-level game.

I started working on a level editor for Game Maker, because hahaha you think im gonna use a crappy 2d editor to make a 3D level.
It doesn't work yet, but I'm getting close...
