Flightless is a puzzle-platformer about ladders and collecting enough gems to progress. You play a duck thief who's had his wings clipped and can't jump or fly. Instead you must scale heights using your magic ladder. Press fire whenever you're on the ground and bam - ladder. Ladders also collect gems, kill monsters, get teleported, bend round corners, hold down switches and more.

Did I mention that's it's local-2-player as well? You can happily explore and any visiting friend can instantly jump into your location for co-op action, or you can explore the dungeon separately. And it's just as easy to jump out again.

I'm developing this for Nitrome Ltd. as a pitch for Steam Greenlight. The game will be made in Flash, but it will have a big sprawling map full of puzzles to explore.

I'm currently finishing off level design on the demo and am in need of feedback. If you'd like to help out with the beta for the demo to show for Greenlight then please send me a message. Everybody loves the game in the office, but I'm sure it will need more polish before we show the rest of the world.

Nice!  I really like the concept of the magic ladder.  I can see it being used for some great escape moments as well.

Received a pleasant surprise opening this thread up. Looks really nice.
The ladder mechanism sounds interesting, but it's hard to visualize exactly how it works just by looking at the image. What do you mean it bends? Does it function like a snake-esque game?

There are teleport pots you can fire the ladder into as well as "turners". The pots and turners also affect things like fireball launchers.

It's a bit like Rodland with the ladders, but these ladders are ultra arcadey to use. It feels also a bit like Pang at times with the speed the ladders rocket into the enemies.

Seriously though, if you want a play right now, send us a message. I think we're pretty happy with the demo as is, but everyone in the office knows how it works - which means we don't know how intuitive the opening of the demo is.

Very pretty, the style is really Nitrome-like. And the little guy with blue hat on the right - is this the main hero? What creature is this?

Nice! This project has some bubble bobble/rainbow island/parasol star vibe (with some solomon's key too!). I remember really enjoying that kind of games when I was younger, and I miss it.  Beer!

Hi folks. The demo and pitch for Greenlight is now live at this url:

http://www.nitrome.com/steam/flightless/

Thank you very much to everyone who helped beta-test the demo.

If you enjoy the demo the please vote for us on Greenlight and please tell others about the game. We really need as much exposure as possible for this project to succeed.

I must know who the artist is.  It's clear they *really* know their shit.  The style seems familiar to me and I'm guessing it's a long-time pixelation member.

Looks absolutely amazing guys.

Edit: is this Snake's (owlboy) art?  It could also possibly be Miascugh (Martin Wörister)

Colour use is great, and the slightly shadowed outline effect is very well done. Smiley
