I just want to say that development is and will continue going on. It slowed down a bit over the summer as I was slammed with a bunch of other projects, but things are happening. I just cannot yet give proper release dates.

Any updates on this project? Firm release date? BTW, if you did a kickstarter to support the project, I'd buy in at $50. I'd also buy an official T-shirt with logo.

I actually registered just now, to ask about availability of binaries. But initially only noticed the other thread in Technical.
OK then. The quest continues with looking for a framework/engine with similar features to Polycode, and with binaries. I'm on Windows 7 x64 and ArchBang+CrunchBang Linux x64.
Nice forum.

apparently it's quite easy to compile binaries, but I can't because my internet sucks and the script fails to download the dependencies

I realize that. But if I wanted to compile Polycode (or any other framework/engine), I wouldn't be looking for its binaries. To me it defeats the whole point of using someone else's framework/engine. It's good to have the source code though, to check if a workaround is possible in case of a bug. I'm looking for something stable to work with on all promised development OS'es, not necessarily feature complete, but stable. And also the Github screenrewrite branch he's working on, which should become the new master branch, just doesn't seem to materialize : 8 Nov 2013: https://twitter.com/Polycode/status/39893570079793152013 Nov 2013: https://twitter.com/Polycode/status/40072865959591526414 Jan 2014: https://twitter.com/Polycode/status/422969348693966848You would think that at some stage stable binaries would have been produced for each OS. Why not put them up for download? It's not like he has to give warranty on these binary releases. But, it is a tremendous effort of course.

Heh Heh Ivan, you're a sport, or you manage to contain yourself very well.
You can't leave this room with a one liner though.
You must be compiling to check your code. Right? So what about releasing those successfully compiled binaries for Windows, OSX, and Linux? (Logic errors and gremlins included.) I accept and understand that no warranty will be given, or that I forfeit any form of warranty as soon as I cross the doorstep when leaving your download shop.
It might even persuade me to compile the beast.

Amy kind of milestones or progress updates? Any ideas or thoughts on what's holding you back from putting out the official binaries? The engine looks great, and I'm sure lots of people would like to try it, even if it's not finished and has bugs. Of course, it's up to you.

The main reason why I haven't released Polycode in binary form is that I would consider a binary release the first "official" Polycode release, which many people are going to try and therefore base their opinion on. I don't want that to be a development version, with all the bugs and inconsistencies that a development version entails.
The other reason for not releasing a binary is that while Polycode is under heavy development, my main interest in other people using it is for helping develop the project and report and help to fix bugs, so the compilation step helps weed out those who, while always very well intentioned, might not have the necessary skills to contribute to Polycode's development.
That said, I have been working very hard over the past few months on getting a stable release out, but like I said, from now on, I am not giving any dates. I develop Polycode on my free time, the amount of which varies fairly unpredictably due to work, life and other factors.
I am working on a new progress update, which should be out this weekend and will showcase all the new 3d editor features.

OK, thanks for your response Ivan.
You're right about that people are going to base their opinion on the binary releases. But there will also be people who will base their opinion on the lack of binary releases.
I didn't ask for a gestimate, because I realize that you devote spare time on it. So do I. From your reply I'm under the impression though, that a release date will not be anytime soon and that I should be looking elsewhere.
I wish you good luck with developing Polycode.
