I will explain why, but first, thanks to every one of you for taking the time to comment, (I would really like to respond personally to all of you, like I usually do, but this time it’s going to be impossible ^_^U),

The reasons why I’m not going to use this is because someone could argue that is not physically possible to remove your trousers like that   and, now the real reason; because the personality of the character is not this kind of clumsy, Guybrush's jokes.

She is more like Ripley/Sarah Connor ( but way sweeter ) who doesn’t care about people seeing her legs. She does it because she wants to. Also, this is kind of a tribute.

Having to explain all this bothers me a little, (I guest at this point it's necessary) because I'm the kind of person who prefer telling stories where each one can imagine the character whatever way they want. Fuzzy context, I think they call it.

Same goes for the panties... I drew panties, not a tong, but if someone wants to see a tong that is up to him/her and I’m totally okay with people imagining what they want ... pixel art at this scale is wonderful to achieve this.

Now, for the intro we thought about showing her in the bed reading something on a tablet (the classic “push start” screen) but now we are thinking about showing her fixing something with tools and stuff, so people can understand better who she is y why she is wearing those clothes from the beginning.

And finally, to be honest, I’m not totally happy with the timing of the original animation, I think this can be improved, she must jump in the moment that the trousers touch the floor instead of waiting that long, but this is only the result of my limited skills as an animator, nothing more.

Now, my personal opinion about all that have been happening here xd

This has made me a bit sad, because we put a lot of work and love into all the scenes of the main menu, and now, it seems like it’s the whole panties-issue that is catching peoples’ attention..and of course, this wasn’t planned, we are not that good  .

I’m going to avoid responding to prejudices and offensive comments which insinuate wrong things because I just don’t have the need. To become obsessive about what people say about your game is not productive. And I’m not going to start arguing about what is okay and what is not, we all here have our own ideas.

But as you can imagine, in this case, I don’t agree with some of the opinions expressed here. I mean, I understand the point about how females are treated in videogame (and in many other contexts too) but I feel like people here are fighting at the wrong place, using 6 pixels to make a point of principles that doesn’t have anything to do with our game. It’s exaggerated.

Speaking for myself, I have no problems with the human body.  And 6 pixels of pornographic humiliation of women, for me it’s more related to beauty than sex. She is not making silly sexy poses or dancing, she drops her pants to be more comfortable wearing the armour, nothing else.

This game is about killing demons (in their majority naked :O) not by showing tits, but by crushing them with a, not at all sexy, servo-armor.  

To summarise, we really appreciate the feedback and all the opinions, but in this case, as I have already said, we are going to keep it. I think if someone has anything more to add to this debate it would be super cool to open a new thread only for that purpose

Now, I hope we can move on with our lives (sigh) If you are still reading at this point  , I want to respond

- it's true that ripley wouldn't care who sees her legs (especially since the only one there to "see" is the player anyway), but i wonder if the main character were male would you animate it the same way; the main thing is that she is letting her pants "drop", which is like a stripper-thing to do, whereas most people (both males and females) when removing their pants pull their pants down, they don't just let it drop to the floor from a standing position, so it seems somewhat unrealistic in that regard

- even if the dev sees nothing personally wrong with it, and even if there is objectively nothing wrong with, it's still true that it will cut into the game's audience. e.g. it'd not only cut down on the female audience a little, but like, fundamentalist christian parents wouldn't want their kids playing such a game if they see that animation. though even tasteful nudity has some of that problem, let alone fan service like this

- another thing is that even though it may be realistic (in the sense that it'd actually happen), not everything realistic has to be portrayed visually. it's also realistic that she would urinate and defecate, but you don't animate those (generally)

but again of course it's still up to the developers, the forum's job is just to let them know whether we like or dislike something, and in this case some people like it and others dislike it

I do that everytime my military pants are weighted down enough by whatever is in all the pockets - which is exactly what I see in this picture: saggy, heavy duty pants full of tools drop the moment you unhook the belt.
It's one of the reasons why I love it so much, she's done tinkreing with the suit, it's time for action, so she just drops all her mechanic gear and jump into the thing unrestricted by it.

You can't seriously think that good games are made by trying to cater to as wide an audience as possible, it's like the most un-indie thing to say.
