early on, when i was trying to figure out the look of the gamer, over a weekend i watched all of ghibli's sky movies. Porco Rosso, Laputa and kiki. they were of course, of great inspiration. i wanted to make a blue sky green grass kind of game, and miyazaki makes great skies and grass.

Looking at it, I get the sensation that the shadow on the light house should taper off more than it does. I mean, on the one hand, the hard-edged shadow really enhances the appearance of bright light hitting at a hard angle, but on the other hand, it seems to contrast poorly against the gradients. It also makes the light house look flat. This is just my snap analysis though, and I could very well be way off base on this.

skyland had amazing background art, which were very miyazaki too.
hated the chepa mocap animation tho.

You forgot Nausicaä! The game looks completely awesome, by the way. I love the design of that floating lighthouse island. If the gameplay is solid and fun (which I have no doubt it is), this will be pure joy to play. |
