UPDATE 37: 08/12/15

Every Wednesday for #indiedevhour we will be featuring a Cross Fate character and sharing their backstory!

Character Feature: Hermann

Hermann N. Logan
Age: 43

Hermann is the CEO of Worldwide Armaments one of the G.A.C.'s Big Eight, along with Ahmad's Sultan Alim Khalid ibn Sayyid, Brunhilde Foundation's Vinesia Brunhilde,Dellaqua Microtech's Dars Saavin & Estebelle Washington, DLM's Gabriel LaCosta, Hexacross Technologies' Natalie Axelle, Nova Arc's Afonso Herald and Okowita R&D's Shigeru Ibuki.

Born in Germany and a former soldier for the UoN, he was discharged after a serious leg injury during a skirmish against the Lunar Segment. Though he could never participate in battle, the UoN kept him as a consultant for weapons intelligence.

By a deal made with the UoN, he became a partner in a contracted UoN weapons manufacture factory. A few years later he bought off it's other sponsors and moved the factory to Mars, setting off as independent and selling military grade technology to the highest bidder.

Hermann is an intelligence and cunning man, who believes success has to be taken with one's own hand. By joining the G.A.C's Big Eight he has guaranteed himself protection from the UoN, fair market from his biggest rivals and a larger area of distribution not the mention gratuitous funding from the G.A.C. Administration.

UPDATE 38: 08/13/15

For #ThrowbackThursday  Beer! we wanted to show you the concept art that led to the final for one of our favorite mechas WMS-11!!! Along with some of the story Shrug

Featured Mecha: WMS-11

The WMS-11, short for Weaponized Mobile System is an automated drone used in VT warfare. Installed with a a perfectly legal limited intelligence, it's open able to follow simple commands, and pre-programmed actions. Aside from that detail, it's a relatively inexpensive machine to manufacture, relying on strength by numbers.

Currently it is being tested to serve as the next generation of Colony Security for G.A.C.'s Amatsu, and replace the old generation of MTs (Mobile Troopers, smaller robot akin to Power Armors). The Amatsu Advanced Pilot Program is also using a few WMS-11s on battle exercises for their cadets.

It's main issue weaponry is the Burst WM Rifle and the WM Cutter.

UPDATE 40: 08/15/15

It's #ScreenShotSaturday Beer! This is ish...

Featured: Newly Updated UI Design

All Pre-Alpha: It's not necessarily what will be used in the final product.  Well, hello there!

So late! Been working in implementing the UI into the engine, but it's not ready yet.
So we've prepared a small mock-up of what we're working on.

First, Decided to try a streamlined, action-y interface.

Up top is the chat box, it displays the text of what NPCs(and Player Characters) say during battle. Be it scripted events or battle quotes from responses to orders given by the player to reaction lines like "Too Slow!" when successfully evading to "I got you!" upon defeating an opponent.

The List of characters on the left side shows all the participants (of your team) that is currently in the battle.

On the bottom left is the currently selected characters and his/her unit armor/energy. Not much to say about this.

Bottom Right shows what will be the weapon selection window, three weapons per "page". Weapons may have more than one mode of fire/attack, that will also be shown in this window.

All feedback welcome!

I'd be interested to see the new UI without the 'slanting' (I'm dutch, so not sure if this is the right explanation) because I'm not sure if it adds (and certainly takes away a bit of readability) to the UI. Or maybe less slanting.

Ah, indeed! We're still playing around with it, seeing what works best. As we go we'll show different examples. And there are still some minor elements missing from the HUD. =)

UPDATE 41: 08/19/15

Every Wednesday for #indiedevhour we will be featuring a Cross Fate character and sharing their backstory!

Character Feature: Jean Kay

Jean Kay
Age: 16

Born at the Lunar Colony of Meness II, Jean Kay lost both of her parents when she was but a child of three years of age. She only stayed at the orphanage a few months before being adopted by a rich family who only had one son.

The Family eventually sought their fortune by getting into a gas mining business on Jupiter, Jean was 12 at the time.During the trip, Jean was taught the basics of VT piloting by one of the security guards. Upon arriving at Jupiter, their investment would eventually pay off, but a disastrous incident made Jean the only survivor and sole heir once again only to be rescued by another gas mining vessel.

A lone millionaire young girl, she lived her life carelessly for a year and was at the early age of 13 when she "invited" into a program at Bianca, a mercenary organization. With that, she was to b trained by the top-ranked Bianca operative, Charon along with the other top ten.

During a contract at the North Vermillion Mars Colony project, most Bianca mercenaries lost their life to the Miasm to what became known as the "Calamity of Mars". Barely escaping alive, Jean rose to be the top rank of Bianca and has remained there since then.

Regardless of all that has happened to her, she keeps a nearly unhealthy optimistic outlook on "life and all the wonders it holds for her".

I read "tactical-combat", saw mechs, got excited, then saw "real-time".   Sad

It still looks fantastic however, and I hope this gets the attention it deserves!

UPDATE 42: 08/20/15

For #ThrowbackThursday  Beer! we wanted to show you the concept art that led to the final for one of our favorite vehicles, the Wizard!!! Along with some of the story Shrug

Featured Vehicle: Wizard

Wait what is this? A Motorcycle? Nope, an Assault Bike!

We've mentioned before how in Cross Fate you would commandeer not only robots, but also vehicles. So here is the Assault Bike, Wizard! Equipped with a highly intelligent (and very illegal) AI, it was the main weapon of choice for the terrorist known as Nimrod that made the Dome his playground for weeks.

The Wizard was equipped with a Low Gravity Drive, Plasma Shielding and Boosters. And armed Plasma Cannons, Vertical Launch Homing Lasers, Machineguns, and a frontal Laser Cannon. That kind of firepower made him nearly impossible to stop for several days for local authority, but eventually, he was assassinated and the threat was over.

With the Terrorist gone, The Wizard was kept under lockdown at the CyberEye Bureau. At first security was severe around it, after all it contained a highly intelligent AI. But eventually it was forgotten by most and currently sits disabled, stored at an CyberEye impound lot warehouse, waiting for it's next rider.

PS: We're still working on it! so no 3D model of it yet :c

Ah yes, think of it like a "Rainbow Six-esque tactical combat" =) that's what one of our team members said AI we're working on reminds him of.
I know there was some confusion earlier whether it as an RTS.

UPDATE 44: 09/10/15

For #ThrowbackThursday Beer! we wanted to show you the concept art for The Vankaiser!!! Along with some of the story Shrug

Featured Robot: The Vankaiser

Following the Events that took place on:
https://youtu.be/u1h0b93Svg8?t=137

Earth was desperate for a solution against the Miasm, their vehicles and weapons were mostly useless. It was then that the first VT was built, the Vankaiser. Built at a Japanese research facility, it was designed with it's main purpose to fight back against the Miasm. Billions of the Empire of Great Japan's funds went into it's study and production lead by Okowita Technologies, one of it's main obstacles was to make sure that unlike other  vehicles or weapons, the Seekers wouldn't be able to shatter it to pieces in an instant. They managed to make a frame that resisted the seeker's vibration, but it was costly. Due to it's extremely high cost, only one VanKaiser was ever made.

It's design, was based off classical robot cartoons, the kind that people can look up to as the 'heroes' against 'evil'. While it could have been designed with a more contemporary approach, they felt the people of Japan, and all of Earth needed something to booster their morale in these dark times.

As one of the first VT's the Vankaiser predated the newer operating systems, that allows a pilot to manage all on his own, meaning the Vankaiser requires two operators that divide the chore. Even after they had the chance of an upgrade, the pilots Elliot Mitchel and Lisa Goldman (at first two tourists that became the pilots by happenstance) preferred to keep the two-seater as they'd gotten used to it and to each other.
