This week has been all about the physics

We've been tweaking the ball physics, and some things went a bit wrong:

Somebody forgot to tell our ball that gravity isn't suppose to go up.

We're starting to get somewhere now with how the ball leaves the players feet and falls back to the ground, but there's a few more bits and bobs we need to tweak before we are 100% happy.

The ball's path is affected by:
  • Kick Power
  • Ball Speed
  • Air Friction
  • Gravity

Easy peasy.... Shocked

Things have come along quite nicely since the start of the month, we've added a nicely animated UI, Artificial Intelligence and a lot more teams and now team stats (so you can really struggle when playing Brazil Vs Denmark)

We've Added INDOOR MODE!

.. and it's really fun!

There's 5 players on each team, on a smaller pitch and with an option for Bouncy Walls. You can score some really great goals by bouncing the ball off the walls and smashing it in the net off the rebound.

We've also been adding our tournaments system (starting with a simple Round Robin League). It's quite a big beast to tackle (pun intended) as there are lots of different types of tournaments we want to include, so setting up a good foundation for us to easily add new cups and leagues is very important.

Other than that, Ali is setting up a new optional camera layout for Landscape. Hopefully this will work really well with the indoor mode, as it does feel a bit cramped in portrait.

We're all ready for EGX Rezzed tomorrow!
We'll be there all week, so if you are going to be around, pop over and say hi and try out SAF. We are downstairs with all the indie games, should be a great expo!

We've also updated the Early Access version today:

What's New:
  • Added a button for Switch Player
  • Reviewed the Auto Switch player handling
  • Added better keyboard support
  • Improved the local multiplayer experience
  • Fixed some gameplay/UI bugs

If you've been playing the game please let us know what you think either here or on the Steam Store page

We had a great time at Rezzed

Couldn't keep count of the amount of people who played SAF, but it seemed everyone who did really enjoyed it.

Some people took to it so quickly and ended up beating us on their first game, which is a good sign.

One thing that was pleasantly surprising was the different types of people who enjoyed it and came back for more, young kids and older retro gamers all seemed to get into the spirit of SAF and were hawking and screaming whilst pulling off some great goals and terribly cynical fouls.

We also met a couple of people who are following us on tigsource too! If you're reading this now, thanks for coming by and checking it out! Smiley

In other news, we have put up a FREE Demo of Super Arcade Football on itch.io

If you fancy trying out SAF, you can download the demo here:

Today we've added the first of many MODIFIERS!

You can now make your own custom game types changing a number of parameters such as:

  • Match Length
  • Match Type
  • Pitch Type
  • Weather
  • Score Limit
  • Modifiers

You can make some really crazy game modes, or slow things down and play with much looser ball controls:

We've also added a settings menu (which is quite basic at the moment) where you can change a few graphics and audio settings.

It's pretty fun, especially the score limits and time settings you can tweak. Nothing like setting up a custom tournament where every goal is the winning goal!

How's your experience been on Early Access? From the looks of things, response has been rather positive, so that must be good. Is it successfully funding development as you had hoped? And how close are you to a final, finished product?

It's going well actually, we're enjoying it but things have definitely tensed up since launching on EA. There's a good pressure on us to fulfill the games potential, as well as trying to respond to everyone's suggestions/criticisms/compliments, and just general trying to improve everything all at once (which is impossible for just 3 devs).

We've also had to re-jig our priorities list, which was unexpected. Things we thought were the most important have been overtaken by others due to the responses we got on Steam and at conferences we've taken SAF to.

But in regards to the absolute final/finished product, we have a while to go. Realistically another 10 months or work  Shocked
