last year i went the hostel route.

me and friend booked the "private room", which is a single room for 2, rather than the usual single room for 4 random people.
it was just marginally pricier than the regular 4-person room and was totally worth it.

the room was small, smelled weird and got insanely hot at times...but i just love that kind of ambiance of waking up to a bunch of bohemians and hippies and students from all around the world, all here because they cant afford a crazy expensive hotel room, or because they actually like that kind of community.

it was a great deal.
i couldnt have paid for the whole trip if it wasnt for the cheap hostel.
also it was withing walking distance of the center.

but hell, it sounds like there's gonna be a crazy party a derek's place.

Open House Party at Derek's whooo! Now I am considering going, even if I do not place... And I live South Africa.

I'll bring the lightly-salted chips (or crisps, whatever you call it).

lets have an IGF party where we dress up as eachother's games.

We should organize that party at Derek's place. I'll call the fez, because I don't want to be left with konjak's naked robot suit or with BMcC's naked man suit.

You know what, I'm totally serious, you guys are welcome to crash.  My apartment's not all that big, though.

But we have a backyard, which is rare in San Francisco.  Bring a sleeping bag and I'll hook up a tent.  F'reals.

I'm not even kidding!  TIGSource Urban Camping Party!!! Kiss

They should all be florissant green so nobody gets lost.

Last year, the conference associates wore florescent green. If they wear the same again, expect to be asked directions to the bathroom eight times an hour.

A lil under 2 weeks till the student deadline...

Most of the Transperator team has been working on a title called The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom since May.  Unfortunately the game is not going to be finished until March.  We have this crazy idea to submit a package to this years IGF that's basically a collection of mini-games playing with the core mechanics of the full game.  No idea if we can polish it enough for the deadline but we are going to try.

What do you guys think?  Submit Mini-Games Showing off core-concepts? Or wait to submit until next year after graduation?
