Hey Friends,

I was lurking on the forum this morning and listened to many of your works and wow... TIGF hosts a number of very amazing composers! I was thinking that it could be a lot of fun and inspiration to create a VGM """contest""" where everyone can participate. I would love to see a friendly competition where the most experienced of us could give some feedback and advice to the beginners. There would be nothing to win but... I was thinking that it might be nice if the winner accepted to answer the questions of the other participants in a kind of "FAQ" or something.

So far, my idea was:
Hand Point Right A theme is chosen by a non-participant who writes a very short story (300 char. max)
Hand Point Right Participants have a week to submit a clip of +/- 1 minute long.
Hand Point Right At the end of the three weeks, a poll will be added for everyone to vote for their favorite songs.
Hand Point Right There is no limitation regarding how many people you can vote for. Simply chose your favorite entries.
Hand Point Right The poll will be up for one week and everyone can vote, musician or not.
Hand Point Right The three winners will have their name listed on the original post with a link to their music.
Hand Point Right Also, I was thinking that the gold medal could, like said above, answer a few questions from other composers in a kind of "FAQ". It would be featured on the original post.

So far this is what I was thinking but I wanted to hear your ideas and see how many of you would be interested in this little game. If the first edition is a success, we could turn this into a tradition and do this again every three months or so?

Let me know what you think  Smiley

Sounds like a good idea. Let's see how many people will be interested.

Something similar has been done many times but it seemed to fade out in 2016. Here's the last one: https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=59046.0

I think 3 days is too short. A week would make it easier for more people to "compete".
I like your idea of the winners doing a mini Q&A.  Coffee

I was pretty sure something like this would have already existed on the forum but, for some reason, I didn't seem to find it with the search tool :V. It looks like it met with a terrible fate, though Sad...

I wonder if it would work today. But I guess it's worth trying, I'm sure it would still be fun even if there is not a thousand entries Smiley. What would be nice is to have the moderators pin it at top of the audio forum, just the time of it going on, it might help.

You are totally right, three days would be too short, I've updated the post Smiley.

Let's wait and see if some more people are interested but I would really love to see this happen so it could be worth giving it a try anyway Smiley.

Ironically a while back I said that the challenges were just on hiatus and wouldn't die... here we are a year later and they definitely died haha.

So we can either start over with Heartbeet's ideas or rejuvenate the old system. In the old system, someone would start the competition(generally the person who won the last contest, but this is a special circumstance) by coming up with their own challenge rules - baseline is for people to come up with a track. There would have a timeframe(about a month generally worked best otherwise it was too short and no one enters or it is too long and people forget about the challenge). Once the deadline hits, the challenge starter would choose a few finalists and then the community would vote on their favorite entry. The "winner" would then have all the glory and head the next challenge.

Here are a few examples:

https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=45173.msg1092999#msg1092999
https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=42442.msg1047517#msg1047517

Example of the votes - sometimes people would also provide constructive criticism:

I want to say one of the pitfalls of the challenge that ended them all is that it was too complicated and not enough people entered.

Hey Friends, sorry, I was quite busy, I didn't mean to disappear, haha.
Well, I think it's worth trying. Even if it's just a few of us we might have some fun Smiley. I will think it through and make an "official" post for this. Does any of you want to prepare this with me? If so, send me a message and we can talk on messenger or whatever Smiley!
