Now You're Thinking With Portals is a 2d puzzle platformer based on the award-winning game Portal. It takes use of 2d environment advantages and disadvantages in order to provide fun, challenge and excitement. The game provides a story different from the original Portal, linking more to the story of Half-Life and features some of the other parts of the facility in order to mysterious-ize the environments. A total of 21 test chambers will be featured. In pure VALVe style, we've included a large (and continuously expanding!) set of achievements to be unlocked. All music is both custom and remixed made by DJ Yoshiman specifically for this project. All graphics are made by Joe Inky and Lan Giniewski. Game engine and mechanism is developed by myself using the MechaSource game engine. The game is still under development, but we're hoping to release this summer.

On the one hand I hope you rip off my portal mechanic idea. On the other hand, it could make my game better than yours if you don't.

Well, if you want to share it and help improve this project, then I wouldn't mind that at all. Although I have no clue what the idea is or what your game is.

It looks nice, but you're under the threat of receiving a cease and desist from Valve. Althought they have been known to be nice toward fan games but who knows.

I doubt that is going to happen since the game is non-profitable, and as you mentioned, Valve loves it's community and what it produces.

Yeah as long as the game is free I don't think you have to worry. One of the most successful flash games recently was a 2D Portal game.
Awesome artwork. Looks very professional.

actually the last hl2 fan game i remember, Codename: Gordon, got featured on Steam... and you can download it from the service. Even if it was a piece of crap gameplay wise (no scrolling, clunky controls...)! Also that Team Fortress 2 demake someone did for tigs demake compo got blogged on the official Team Fortress 2 blog! Oh an there was a "portal 2d" flash game, and valve took the levels and added them to the real Portal too as downloadable pack! So no, Valve is the last software house you can expect a cease&desist from...

I was hoping no one would notice they're being re-added, but we had to remove them for the time being because of some complications.

I do recall playing a 2D Portal game in the past. I even recall downloading the 3D mod that turned Portal into that 2D Portal game. And then there was ASCII Portal... Wow, I play waaaay too much Portal. FEED ME PLEASE. This is looking pretty great by the way.

I like the number of nice touches. Little things, like the blurry windows in the background, the cameras that follow you, the sparks when you shoot the wrong surface, etc.
Clearly this is being made by someone who loved the original portal a lot. Looking good!

Crappy music? It's sound quality is a bit choppy. But, Pendulum is not crappy music, you take that back. Anyways, cool video. There was a 2D Portal flash game already though, but this looks promising.
