This looks great! Also nice that you share gifs of bugs (like the grass one)

One bit of feedback: in the first gif where you show them it somewhat breaks immersion for me that there are enemies that shoot but never move or look around. In later gifs they stand behind a little fence. Somehow that makes it a lot more acceptable narratively - they're walled in for their protection, but that also means they're stuck.

So I saw a similar comment about the grass when I first made the devlog and after looking at it, this is an artifact of the GIF-maker. The grass is actually not even animated, I use functions to simulate the sway. I agree that fully animated would look better, but I tried doing sub-pixel animation, but the pixel count is just so low and to get a slower wave that I wanted, it didn't look good so I went with a function-based one. The only way it could look okay is if I use a alpha for transparency (to use with sub-pixel movement), but I was trying to stick with the gameboy restrictions of no alpha channel. I am still debating if those restrictions make sense from the 3+ years ago I started this Smiley No matter what I do the couple GIF-makers I've tried never interpolate the movement of the grass and show it as much more static Sad EDIT: Oof sorry I misunderstood, yes the bouncy grass was funny Smiley

About the movement: archers don't move at all they're more like turrets. And the sword-enemies have dummy pathfinding (when chasing the player). I might eventually implement a smarter approach, but in the context of the game I promise it works. Most of the engagements with enemies are like a little puzzle and are intended to last <20-30 seconds. Right now there isn't any real reason for the enemy to be able to chase you around corners. It has become part of the way you manipulate them to get around them. Although I feature sneaking up and hitting enemies with bamboo to incapacitate them, the most common tool the player is asked to use is sight and sound.

Well... that was unexpected... 1k+ upvotes on r/gaming:

It's interesting because I've never really had this much attention to the game and it feels really good to see all the positive reactions. I guess the game might be good? At least look and sound good. Anyways, a nice confidence boost!

Man this is insane:

I've never done anything in my life that got this much attention! So crazy.

That's such a meaningful compliment! You should check out Star Ocean: Blue Sphere. It was a GBC game but all the sprites are still 4 (and sometimes 3?!) colors for backwards compatibility to the OG Gameboy.
