Going from this thread alone, it seems everyone is indie...

I'm not indie.

I'm so indie that if you asked me what mainstream meant, I would assume you were taking about the Amazon river.

Sounds exactly like what an indie would say.

I'm so indie that I make games without the financial backing of a publisher, or the support of a multi-person studio.

Not sure what the rest of you are talking about.

Once there was an indie barnacle.
He was so indie that everyone died.
The End.
and now you must acquire a taste for

freeform jazz

Last freeform jazz gig I went to had a man screaming down a microphone and then through his trumpet. Not encouraging when you're doing a jazz music degree.

I went to a free jazz show a few years ago, and it was pretty laughable.

Which isn't to say there is no good free jazz, it's just that a lot of people who really can't play their instruments very well and/or don't want to be bothered to make actual music seem to decide that whatever pointless wankery they're doing is somehow suddenly free jazz.

I went to a jazz fusion show a few years ago, and it was pretty laughable.

Which isn't to say there is no good jazz fusion, it's just that a lot of people who can play their instruments some form of guitar really fast and/or don't want to be bothered to make actual music seem to decide that whatever pointless wankery  they're doing is somehow suddenly jazz fusion.

But the worst part is, unlike free jazz musicians these masters of pointless finger acrobatics actually have a substantial fanbase, though it probably consists of 90% guitar teachers.
