That shot's progressed a lot since this morning on /v/, I see, Sap. Smiley
By background noise I think what was meant was more general detail on the back wall, and not necessarily the edge of it.

And im9, I can never get enough of your stuff.

Quoting because it fell off the page and its awesome.  Im9, your stuff is always so wild.  I love how you break conventions and do some really original stuff I want to learn some of this craziness in my designs and style!  Also your compositions on the page are so incredible just the way everything is thrown on there and there are half-thoughts and unfinished stuff all over!

So I drew this weird little purple fish girl thing a while ago, and I got bored in programming class with some free time, so...
Grayscale, blue bg just cause

Colored up nice and pretty, should prolly get rid of the black border soon


Are there any glaring flaws with these? The colored one is a bit different, more shaded than the gray one, but is it good?

It's cool, but you need to read in on some color theory. You know, complementary colours, lower saturation in shadows, pleasant over-all saturation levels, trying to create a somewhat consistent light colour and so on. Right now it looks a little too 80's anime/video game, which is sometimes fine if that's what you're going for, but it can be pretty damn hurtful to the eyes. Lyle in cube sector, for example, pulls it off by making some elements(mostly backgrounds) black or very dark, so that the over-saturated stuff pop out in a nice contrast. In your pic everything is pretty glowy, but as long as you keep the background dark/unsaturated, like in the black/white pic, it should be ok Smiley

The pink is transparency, the bottom row is showing the sprites with transparency overlaying a white backdrop.

That's awesome. I can see what looks like a discombobulated shape of a tree at points of the explosion, and it's really interesting.

In a game situation white isn't always going to be a backdrop.
