Paul Eres is the one true God that I worship regularly. His religion, Eresism, is how I live my life; paleo diet, putting ringlets on shoes, taking apart watches and putting them back together with one piece missing to see if it still works properly, and typing large bodies of text without capitalization are the foundations of this practice.
We Eresist join together once a week on Tuesdays to stir and drink tea and we speak in tongues saying things like, "o" and "dum". Our core beliefs are that: "Sometimes the daily actions of life are the most important, we must treasure every moment, even moments as simple as this." As demonstrated here:

So I didn't take the time to read through this whole thread, but anyway:
That interview is fantastic. If I'm recalling things correctly, both of you (Paul and Eva) have said things in the past that threw me off balance in uncomfortable ways and made me upset*. But I bring this up only to say that this interview made me realize that I actually love both of you.
*Fun fact: Back in the day (we're talking about four years ago, I believe; it's still much closer to the present than I'd like it to be), I posted on Castle Paradox with some ugly sprites and asked for people to team up with or something, and somebody said something about how people should be making fun of me less. Mr. Eres said something to the effect of, "I disagree. I think you need to be made fun of more, and I wish I had time to do it myself." I feel I can finally relate this story with confidence, because if the me from now met that guy I was back then... I would probably make fun of him, too. Anyway, nobody should look this up. It is nonetheless embarrassing, probably for everyone involved. I just thought it was an interesting story to share; I'm not sure why.

i don't remember that, but i don't doubt it either. people who never made a game who post with a 'great idea for a game' and who want others to make the game for them and do all the work while they tell others what to do or 'write the story' or something like that (which i imagine is the type of thing you're talking about?) is a recurring theme on game-making forums everywhere. there should probably be a rule specifically against it.

I love how the interview shows glimmers of humanity in Paul Eres, and eva, too... It's almost like Paul is human, afterall, and that eva isn't just some multiple personality of Paul, but a real person, too.

He was posting sprites for critique, for one, and for two, writers for games are important. "Concept and design" is an important position; I believe Phil Fish is officially credited for it. The problem is, most people can serviceably write or make concepts on their own, and don't NEED a person specifically for that. I still say writing should be more important. I don't advocate "mak me gam" though. It feels like you're abusing the charity of other, nice and skilled, developers.

i didn't mean that writers don't have an easy job obviously, writers are very important, it's just that everyone thinks they can do writing, probably because everyone can write to some degree, and because it takes more expertise to tell the difference between good and bad writing than between good and bad music or good and bad graphics. but yes, writers are great and i didn't mean to undervalue them, the reason immortal defense was as successful as it was was as much because of its writer as because of me (if not moreso).
and it was sprites? i'd have to check the thread again. i did a search for castleparadox + "machine saint" but couldn't find the thread. did you have a different username there machine?
