Hi y'all.
Allen, I completely understand your lack of confidence in what has already been presented.
I would like to mention I coded up a day/night cycle w/ multiple event triggers that can occur at any set time of day. I spent a lot of time on it, but that's kinda beside the point and I'm sure someone else could have written it in a half hour.
And on top of your other concerns, I'm new. I have hardly anything to show as far as games I've made in the past.
That being said, I would like you to know that I really appreciate your raw honesty and for pointing out exactly what you see is wrong with the project (a lack of notable content/gameplay systems is what I got out of what you said).
Your criticism is motivating, I'm making sure it's being put to good use.
Xoorath and Namragog,
Thanks for being so supportive. But I hope you've gathered from what I just said that he hasn't hurt my feelings or weakened my desire to finish this game.
Quite the opposite.
I mean really, I don't think the kickstarter is going to make it. It's just a gut feeling.
But whatever, you live and you learn. I'll be better prepared if I try again with another project.
So my motivation now is to make enough money through illustration/pixel art/graphic design commissions to carry on and finish Deshori. If need be, I'll get a "real" job.
In fact, I probably should just go straight for the job if I want to move out of my mom's house and move all my stuff into crystal lake.
Anyways, I suppose it'd be worthwhile to talk a bit about the game and kinda move past the somewhat pretentious stuff I have on the front page. So, here goes.
Deshori is a first person exploration game. It takes place on an alien world.
There are a lot of somewhat familiar places and animals, just a little different from the ones you'd find on earth. Sort of in a surrealistic way. So you feel like you're dreaming.
Let's talk a bit about what's planned for the animals:
Firstly, I decided to somewhat color code the animals. Both for aesthetic reasons and gameplay reasons. White/light grey animals are more docile/nondangerous. I.E. birds, deer, fish, etc...
Whereas more dangerous animals have a color pallet that either moves towards black or some other bright representational color. I.E. panthers will be black, raptors will be bright red, other completely fake animals will be whatever fits best with their surroundings and behavior.
Ok, now lets segue into behavior:
The aforementioned deer are more like antelope or gazelles I suppose.
I'm basing their visual design off of
Gerenuks but with horns more shaped like
Oryx horns.
They will group together and look for flat plains to graze on.
They might not care when you walk by if you're far enough away, but get too close and you can scatter the herd. These deer are food for the aforementioned "Panthers".
Panthers are highly territorial and usually stick to one area (usually woods/forest). You'll be able to tell when you're getting into ones territory by the lack of noise. No birds. No nothing. It'll be an OH SH*T moment when you realize it's quiet in the woods because you're probably already being hunted.
These are two animals out of a few that I am positive will be in the game.
I'm hungry. I'm going to go eat breakfast and then make another post. Because I can.
ha
