ADVenture

ADVenture is a satire of upper class restaurant culture and a political commentary on the brutality of animal cruelty in the food industry. In this game, you are the owner of a restaurant specializing in serving the blood of animals that you slaughter (in outlandish ways) yourself. It is an arcade action game that contains very light sim elements where you use your mouse to decimate as many animals as possible before returning home to manage your restaurant

Project Info

Hello everyone! I'm Ryan Huggins of Sundae Month (some games with devlogs at tigsource include Petrichor, Levity, Saboatage, but there are other games located at our website). This is a project that was made for my Graphics I class at Champlain College. Pretty much, we were supposed to make something that looked reasonably attractive with XNA. It's a class for Sophomore Game Programmers and Junior Game Designers. I am a Junior Game Designer. I decided to make what amounts to a vertical slice of this game here called ADVenture.

Regardless, we were required to make a blog post for this particular project to showcase the game and I figured that it would be a good idea to just post it here! Perhaps some of you will find it amusing (or absurd and grotesque). ;P If I get any response at all, I'll probably expand it into a full game one day. At the same time, this is just one of three games I have to finish for finals week (which is this week :O), so hopefully I'll have some more games to show and time to progress on this one, but WHO KNOWS? Not me.

Credits

I made/did everything except for the sound.

Sounds were created by Sundae Month's musical director, Jack Yeates (https://soundcloud.com/blueskybleu).

The sounds were just grabbed from random other projects he's made sound for (for me). All of them were WIPs not used in other projects. The song is actually an old WIP from Dolphin Squadron (http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/dolphin-squadron/15018/) which I made like a year or so ago. It's a bit of a hodgepodge of SFX, but it works well enough for the class. >_>;

Other Info

I've always enjoyed when game documentation is available for aspiring developers to see how others are doing things, so I made one basic document for ADVenture. It can be viewed here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ndmuzg4gF4GZriwpH4UIxKOKBWuOhOKQljtEp7iP7DM/edit?usp=sharing).

The original Game Maker prototype (which I happened to make during what Sundae Month calls a Shit Jam--where we make a game a day for a week (during classes) to unload)--can be downloaded here (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62523364/Ryan/SundaeMonth%20-%20Games/Jams%20and%20Events/Random%20Idea%20Jam/Builds/%7EADventure-Default-1.0.0.0/AD_Venture.exe);

The game was coded in XNA (required by the class) and it was made in roughly 3.5 weeks (which translates to 50-60 hours of actual work). The art was definitely an afterthought on my part. I made it all in like an hour.

HOPE YOU LIKE IT!
THANK YOU. <3
