I know, but I can't help thinking it'd be cooler with (rough) conservation of volume, DF style.
ah yeah when I said he used to have different water, I meant he used to have volumetric water. It came between the infinite world-flooding water and the current spring-flow water. It worked pretty nicely, iirc, but it was still kind of awkward. Draining lakes and flooding caverns and stuff was possible though. If there were a missing block from a body of water I think the hole would just kind of move around or something, I don't recall well, and lone blocks of water would randomly move around for a while before "evaporating".

Anyway he said it was incompatible because he had to check the whole map to update water or something, which is of course no good for a virtually infinite world. It was fun while it lasted though. But now we can have Rad Shit like waterfalls.

Crazy Crazy Epileptic Crazy Crazy

Also, don't worry (too much), last I heard all torches in current worlds will be automatically converted to the new endless lanterns (after the updates torches will run out over time and need to be relit with flint&stell).

I was going to comment on the update, but it's probably better that we wait until it's actually up. The Minecraft forums are already alit with people either hating or loving stuff they barely know the workings of. Especially torches.

Don't back down Notch. Be brave and bold!

Lanterns sound like a cool addition. Torches are simply too easy to make.

Hell World should be crazy hostile and have tons of the worst mobs in the game spawning even on lit areas (or jump out from magma) at all times, even with some monsters spawning on Peaceful, but also have high concentration of ores like diamond.

The only thing I'm worried about with the new update is not knowing what brightness I have to have a room at to not worry about mobs spawning in it.

I only wish that Minecraft would stop playing creepy sounds/music when i'm only working on extending my dwelling Crazy >.<

I'm also building up a huge pile of gravel, which i'll have to make into a giant mound to convert to flint at some point. That'll be fun... /sarcastic

Notch, will we be able to carry around lanterns in our hands in addition to placing them in the world? Having a portable light source that is actually portable would be the handiest thing.

Haha, I totally know what you mean Tongue  I just wanted to peacefully work on my indoor farm, but I couldn't escape the chittering noises of 7 spiders who were hanging out on my roof directly above me (and I have a glass roof so I could see them bouncing up and down as well... gave me the jibblies everytime I looked up).

that actually remembers me; skeletons that wielded swords would be cool, and with bows visible in their hands...bones...and a minimal ai that tells them to back up when you get too close if they have a bow.
