Oh also, I'm switching from Sundays to Fridays! The updates in this week's issue will be a little late, but next week it'll be back to normal.

I tried making a smaller map to fit 480px wide, but it kinda lost its charm and readability in the process. What I can do though is a cute 480x250 preview pic with the issue number and title for the frontpage, which could link to the TIGS thread with the full pic, or to the Venus Patrol page. Is that okay with you guys?

The new issue is done, I just need to fix the imagemap a bit before posting it!

No, I meant 640px WIDE and ~480px TALL.

I was thinking about it - just do one this week to announce the project. I'm afraid that (especially given our slow posting) the devlog updates will start to drown out the front page.

I'll update the sidebar whenever you put up a new one, though.

Issue #3 will come out on Friday! It features 26 games! I've compiled it this week-end so the updates from the rest of the week will be part of next week's.

Some people here and on twitter asked about how I select games for this. Here's a little run down of the selection process.

I look at the devlog threads every day to try and see what's up. When I have a big enough time slot to build the map, I go back to the threads, look for screenshots. I sometimes look at trailers, but since I don't have time to take screenshots myself, I usually skip trailers and downloadables. I'm usually more tempted to showcase games that just got a big update, a very awesome screenshot or has just been released. I'll try to use games that have not been featured in recent issues, unless, again, it's a big update or a very sexy screenshot. So if your game's not featured one week, keep working and posting screenshots, chances are you'll appear in the coming weeks.

I then collect the screenshots and copypaste them into my photoshop template. I move them around, see what looks good and how they should be layed out. At that point some screenshots will be removed just for space or composition reasons, sorry about that  Embarrassed Starting next week, I'll be aiming for about 16 screenshots (less than usual), because making the imagemap for 26 games is just too time consuming. I really hope to keep the process fun and simple, so that I don't get tired of it.

I really hope you guys will understand that I'm doing this out of love of your games and that this is not a competition - it's only a snapshot of what's happening in the devlog section. Also, I'm posting these on Venus Patrol so that you guys get more exposure, and I'll try to share the magazine on as many places as I can. Please share it on twitter and blogs and stuff so we can really get a ton of people visiting the threads.  Smiley

Since imagemap links don't work on the forums, clicking on the picture will take you to the feature on Venus Patrol, where the imagemap has links and everything.

Also, issue numbers will get weird, since here this is issue #3, but on VP it's issue #1! Oh well!
Shrug
