How's it looking? I honestly can't tell, tiles have never been easy for me. I'm more of a concept art kinda guy I think.
I like the tiles you have so far Smiley  The circular stone patterns are quite nice.

Although still a WIP, here's the current state of the "restless soul" enemy.

this thing is holding me from writing another part of my article...

anyway, hope you guys like it so far.

Each 160x100, two colors, they're backgrounds for my entry to the GM winter contest. I suppose they qualify as pixel work because each pixel is important, although they're not sprites or tiles, just really small background images.

Well, i made this some time ago

basically, this is me :-P. Then a friend asked me if i can make himself in pixelart as well, so i made this

he usually wears a hat, but my original (left) one didn't had one, so i added a hat quickly (right). Didn't got the perspective quite ok, but anyway he liked it.

While i was 'hot on pixels' i also did this

ARRGH!! Made a post and the internet ate it!!

Anyway... Here's some screens from my often scrapped - often revived - and often scrapped again game, Haasten (and one image from my recently scrapped game It's Pitch Black.)

Whole lotta characters!

Kinda creepy outside map.

The old game for OSX. It was a shooter-platform kinda thing.

Pokemon reference...

I'm kinda proud of this.

It's Pitch Black 5-heads characters.
Stupid flash thing.

I was inspired by Space Barnacle to use a 55 NES color palette (that Space Barnacle used). It's fun with the color limit, you have to be creative and really focus on color theory.

Is there a special way to setup a color limit?

I didn't actually go with color limits, but I thought the limited palette would give it a certain flair. The way I understand it(I'm totally not sure), each sprite is allowed three colors- and some may appear to have more because they are actually more than one sprite stacked on top of eachother, on different layers. I think that's the case with the NES Megaman sprite.

Or so I hear.

Ixis: Just peep the restrictions Adam Atomic made - they're at the top of the large pic in the link in Camdag's post - the part ensquarecled in white. Every system has its own limits.

Obviously it's a matter of taste, but I don't personally feel that strict palette limitations are necessarily useful. I understand that some retro-game artists could probably spot when you are using an extra colour, but elevating colour usage to the level of a religious observance is going to be lost on most people.

That said, colour consistency is still a must in video game sprites, and that's not necessarily a bad way of policing yourself. But, basically, I wouldn't lose sleep over a little violation here or there so long as it's in good taste.

Oh yeah, I forgot I put that there. Ok, so I was right about the three colors. Most everything else is lost on my poor fragile mind, however.
