Welcome Tigglets to the "TIGS Compo Secondary Public Awards!"

With the massive concentration of awesome in the competitions hosted at TIGSauce I decided that it would be fun to, AS WELL as the main compo winner voting, to have a series of votings for different aspects of the games, like best aesthetic, best character, most addictive, etc.

Let me know if I'm crossing the line or anything Derek, and people should give me ideas for different awards. I'll create polls around a week after the deadline, or maybe after the actual winner is announced, so people can have the chance to play all finished entries.

What do you guys think?

Oh, good idea Smiley We really should have done this with the VGNG contest too. Probably a good idea not to have too many categories, though.

I'll be sure to choose a maximum of 5 to 7 or so. I'll give greater priority of choice for the ones people suggest the most.

Most Promising But Not Actually Very Good On The Day?

Gots to win something. Even a raspberry.

Funny that I even suggested exactly the same thing during VGNG... but none listens to me anyway, eh?  Huh?

So since the procedural-compo-idea was MY IDEA and this category-voting was intentionally MY IDEA... why not?

YOU PRICKS.  :D

"Most impressive procedurally generated content" or something along those lines should definitely get a mention, if nothing else Smiley

BaronCid:
a) You constantly say that people aren't listening to you.
b) People do listen to you.
c) As discussed last time you claimed that the PG compo was your idea, yes, it may well have been, but it's something that has been talked about a number of times before. It was a lot of other people's idea, too.
d) Note that Melly didn't just suggest such a voting system - he took it into his own hands.

I think something that gets overlooked often is, Best Menu Screen. =) The menu screen is the first thing people see and first impressions say a lot...

Other potential categories:
  • Could've been a VGNG entry with that title
  • Most/It's So "Indie"
  • Easiest/Hardest Game

Keep the suggestions coming people. I'll wait until the deadline so that Derek has all the finished entries (and so I know which entries did not make it) and then it'll be easier to pick cathegories based on those entries. Though I'm getting the idea of making a "Most promissing entry that didn't make it" cathegory. Consolation prize. Smiley

a.) so what?
b.) but they don't seem to notice what they hear from me. which bugs me. but may not be their fault, so I better just overlook it.
c.) well, my description of the rules where quoted to a certain extent.
indeed I didn't invent the topic...
d.) I think it's a good think he did it but it's pretty arguable if it's always
a good idea to start managing things in *almost* official forums without
being an official administrator. In this case it was a good idea because
everyone seems to be happy with it (including me) but I didn't want to
step on anyone's feet back then, so I just slightly suggested it.
None seemed to notice what I suggested.

But hey guys, I don't wanna be the old venecian jew wanting the other guy's blood and tears because he actually earns it.
It's cool, really.

At least I know that my ideas please people. That pleases me.  Smiley

oh, and:

Best game which doesn't need computers to run it.
Best game which utilizes playing cards to display graphics.
Strangest game.
(2-day-faith-to-a-certain-degree-leaking-campaign: EXPANDED :D )

Game with most potential after the compo.

Hey, I did mention that Derek could pull the stops if he thought I was exceeding myself. Tongue I just feel that with a friendly demeanor cool things can be done, and I kind-of got confortable proposing odd things in these forums. If people don't get interested in them the threads simply drop to the bottom of the pile harmlessly.

And nice cathegories there, though I feel each cathegory must have more than one competitor in it. Tongue

So far here are some I'm thinking of having:

Best visuals
Best audio
Most unique
Most compelling/fun
Best use of procedural generation
Most promissing entry that didn't make it

And maybe a couple of joke ones:

Buggiest
The one you wanted to play the most but couldn't! (yayxna!)
Most Indie Cool

Why not just have a best and worse of each category. So, best background music and worst background music (with no background music being not an option, its got to be terrible to win). Do the same for "best/worst game", then add the vaporware category? "Most/least fun" Smiley

You have much to learn, young Tigsauce...

Declaring a game not made for financial succes is bad is the most unindie thing you can do. There is no "worst" because everything is god-fucking-awesum.
Copy that?  Wink

I think it'd be too mean to have worst cathegories.
