Update: You can now store things in containers, and its all saved etc. Updated gui a bit more. Added some 'wobbly' animations to plants and gibs and things. See e.g.,

Also in the back of my mind I'm starting to come around to the idea of slightly redesigning ol' MM to bring him into the new art style. I'll probably sit on the idea for a few months, but I've drawn a few different heads and things, and I'll experiment with them and see if anything sticks.

Update: Added marble blocks and some marble decorations. Blacksmith and merchant are both in there now. The blacksmith walks around, and you can 'use' him to craft things. If you hurt him too much then he goes agro on you. Same with merchant who's in the screens below. Blacksmith and merch both have custom items, which MM can get in various ways (e.g., killing or maybe as a gift?). Oh, I also animate the plants slightly now, scaling and rotatin them (see 1st screeny) ... breaking the aligned pixel purity even further (I'm a monster). Furthermore, you can now carry your inventory and wielded items between different regions (a simple bit of code which was a long time coming).

The new art looks great!

I too agree that Moonmans looks should stay as it is. It's all fine if he gets some new facial expressions but I think he should have his signature smile most of the time.

Could be pretty comical though if he would break out in big grin (like the pic quoted above) at  special occasions (after a massacre?) and then abruptly going back to his content smile. Or getting the coffee-drugged face from last page after using certain substances. My suggestion is to keep his expression fairly static most of the time though, it's his signature thing.

Anyway, this is just my opinion. I was a bit skeptical when you were upgrading the background art too and that turned out for the better by far, so I'm sure Moonman is in good care however you chose to do things Wink

Hah, @knifeyspooney, he's back to normal now. Although I'll probably have a customize option to change the head etc. Smiley

@kruxus Thanks for the idea. Could be a fun thing to have expressions, we'll see. Smiley

Update: Worked on strangeworld background, and updated many of the armours and helmets. Here's crystal, gold, gold, iron, and merchant outfits. I also started a twitter account @pixel_dailies where I'll post daily pixel art challenges, so come along and join in and let's all improve our art and pixel art skills. [:D]



Edit: second update, just made it so tooltip's appear above cursor when pressing 'ctrl' during play, or automatically when showing inventory.

If you are going to break the pixel sizing for the font I think a higher resolution font would work better. Only 4 pixel high fonts can be hard to read.

Apart from that, looking better every time you post a screenshot! Smiley

I think he looks even more hilarious than before, so I'd say it's an improvement. But seeing how Moonman's grin has become his trademark thing you'd have to be mad to change it. Then again, there are more people who are yet to see this game than those who've already seen it and gotten used to the current look so keeping it for that sake is rather silly.

The current appearance of the moonman guy is wonderfully simple, pretty much memetic. He's easy to take in and easy to like. If you're going to make changes, keep them minor. The silly grin is cool, of course, but I doubt whether it could pull people in like how he's looked so far.

I would have to say I agree that you should keep him the way he is, the other faces just don't look as simple and cool as the original.

But I must say, the graphics work you have been putting into this is simply amazing, I love how some of these screenshots look.

The third from the right looks nice and stocky, but not too short. I think thicker arms might be nice. Liking the overall look and feel, nonetheless!
