PART 0:
TOPIC'S DWARF FORTRESS! You have two weeks to get sufficiently discussworthy.

Get the latest Release here(ish):
http://dffd.wimbli.com/category.php?id=18

Video Tutorials. NO MORE EXCUSES. As seen on Frontpage!

PART 1:

Now, when Skaldicpoet started the last Bi-Weekly discussion thread, I thought it was a pretty good idea. As it's fallen quiet recently, I considered giving it a kick in the pants. But I do hate disorganisation. Multiple threads are more fun.

Discussion would about why we liked the game, why we didn't, where we got stuck, themes, and, well, general etcetera.

So:

-We shall vote for a game to discuss
-We shall wait two weeks, whilst we play it through or get re-acquainted
-We shall DISCUSS, whereupon this thread will likely turn into spoiler-, opinion- and long post- central.
-Before (and, uh, after, but also before) the two weeks is up, post if you get stuck. Hopefully someone will help you out.

PART 2 (OLD):

To kick it off, I'd like to suggest Darthlupi's "The Cleaner".
http://darthlupi.com/?page_id=4 (scroll down a little)

The reason? I rarely see it mentioned, and totally enjoyed it. So this means either most folks don't share my opinion, or they haven't played it yet! Hoping it's the latter  Tongue. Also, sweet vector graphics.

Though, that was my suggestion - other suggestions are more than welcome! When enough of us decide, I'll change the title accordingly.

PART 3:

TO KEEP THESE THREADS COMING: Once discussion's under way, if you could add your suggestion for the next game you want to see discussed under your post, BOLD'D, that'd be swell. It'd also be useful as a voting system, so if what you want to see discussed has been suggested, put the name down anyway.

Next thread will be up in... a month-ish. That is to say, if I continue organising these things, and no-one wants to start another themselves.

PREVIOUS THREADS [I figure reviving them to post your opinion wouldn't hurt]

7 Minutes was interesting, although I don't think it would take two weeks to play it.

La Mulana has the opposite problem, because it would take much more than two weeks to play it. Shrug

My nomination would have to go to Dwarf Fortress. Now that there's a youtube manual out there, I think more people could be convinced to give it a go for two weeks. It's a really fun game, but I feel that most people look at it and go "well, maybe some other time".

I agree with GV, Dwarf Fortress seems much more interesting that The Cleaner.

DF sounds good. I haven't played it in a while. And playing in group will help people new to it.

NOTE TO NEW PLAYERS!

This should really help out. If you're confused about any feature, it's almost certainly here.

It's got information about just about everything. It even has some rudimentary design plans for things like efficient bedroom placement and the creation of dumping pits.

Damn, just yesterday I promised myself I'd take a break from DF after playing it almost non-stop for two weeks (I have a bit of OCD, I guess). I'll definitely join in on the discussion, though. (SPOILER: It's awesome)

Also, if you have issues with the graphics, this tileset goes a long way with de-confusifying the game.

So then I repeatedly dropped my trade depot down 20 z-levels each time the goblin's came, then I would flood the pit to drown any goblins that survived, and wash all their nice stuff so I could pump the water back out, send a couple guys down there to get all their stuff, and build removable supports so I could build a new one, but then this skeletal dragon came an-

Oh wait, the discussion hasn't started yet?

Day 1:

So begins the epic what will surely soon be the greatest dwarven settlement ever... settled! I'm already beginning to worry about our fearless leader, though. He has decided that our settlement will be named "Mountain home". This is an excellent name, under certain circumstances. It has much less accuracy when used to describe a jungle, for example.

...At least he has a sense of humor? This may not be the perfect life that the buggers at the "Dwarvish Colonization Committee" described it to be.

I thought this was the wheneverly discussion thread, not the post the entire story of your fortress thread, but if that's allowed then whatever.

And if it has magma, it's perfect.

Telling the story of your fortress is a long-honored dwarven tradition! I encourage other people to document at least the more interesting occurrences at their fort.

I've tried so many times to play DF, and I know I would love it.
It's just the goddamn interface.
I'm fine with the ASCII.
I'm fine with the depth.
I'm fine with the complexity.

Just let me use my goddamn mouse.
I refuse to try again until they add full mouse support.

I disagree.

First off, it does allow mouse support on most screens, so no reason to complain there.

Second, in my experience, using the mouse slows things down SO MUCH, hotkeys are so much better for me anyways.
