Warsow definitely isn't "free Q3A"... It's much much faster. More like "free CPMA" with which Warsow shares the movement style. Still Warsow is completely different visually.

Mecha Kitbashing:

795 faces, 1368 tris. Gotta find some ways to optimise the geo some more if this were to be suitable for mobile in large numbers, but it'd certainly work for desktop or tablet.

Legs could probably have some internal geo removed or simplified easily.

Some discrepancies in the mirroring here and there because its literally just a large collection of kit pieces made over a few hours. First time I've done this kind of stuff, crits welcome.

Gonna continue working on the kit over time, probably. Texture is currently taking a 256x256 section of a 512 atlas.

The glass could extend around the cockpit more (either more upwards, or around the sides more), the feet seem like they might be too thick and facing backwards, and the mech could use more color, but that's more about style than anything. It's awesome the way it is.

I figured you'd mostly just use camera views or whatnot for seeing around the cockpit, but I mostly got lazy by omitting side windows or w/e.

others have commented on the feet being backwards too. I'll learn as I go, haven't drawn enough mecha.

Awesome mech.
For mobile / optimizations I'd consider painting the rockets on a texture.

Perhaps you could merge the smaller cylinder on top of the leg with the one that connects it to the main body?

Iunno, if it was slowed down it might be easier to see what could be condensed.

Yeah considered that but then they look stupid from various angles and you have to either fire them all at once or waste a lot of texture space animating a fire sequence. I guess I could put them on a surface slightly forward of the interior of the launcher and do some UV swapping magic as the rockets were fired.

I could do all those merging ops and save a few polys in there, but its both unoptimised and preliminary at this point. Cheers for the suggestions though.

Make the rocket heads pyramids, not hexahedrons

Maybe, seems like a waste of polys though. Its just an elongated cuboid at the moment.

Maybe just put the rocket texture on a small quad?

You could also do 2 (or more) LOD's , so :
LOD0 - normal higher poly mesh
LOD1 - rockets as textures

Anyone know if a 3-d ASCII character mesh-set has been made? I have an idea for a quick n' dumb rogulike I'd like to whip up  Wizard

e: apparently most 3-d modellers can just extrude from fonts, so I'll try that out

NOT BY ME, but i still found these pretty impressive:

the artist also has a lot of cool, non-weeb stuff, but i can't see them all cos i don't have a pixiv account

makes me want to get into 3d modeling some day

@John Sandovaal - There's nothing there...?

EDIT: Wait, there it is. Wow, that's solid modelling and texture work. Excellent job to whoever made it.

@Delko - Cool. Reminds me of Katamari Damacy. I like it!
