I'm slightly concerned about copyright C+D dickwaving though, since I'm not particularly interested in wasting my time... How likely do you think crytek gmbh would be to shut down a very small fan game intended for freeware release though? I haven't done much fanart/fangames before but I have heard of zelda fangames getting kicked around as an example. Say it's a parody and claim fair use.

@John: no worries, point holds that it's damn nice work Say it's a parody and claim fair use. Heh, maybe. Is it still fair use if it's more of a tribute? Should really learn this kinda stuff, but I'm not sure how much crossover there is between Australian and American copyright law anyway. I might just go for it regardless as a proper focussed "in breaks" project. I keep shifting the goalposts and outputting a bunch of assets for different things, then moving on. Anyway back to the 3d artiness, I'll post when I've got something to show

Trying out some super low-poly/quasi-voxel stuff. I realized that the suspenders have a break at the top after uploading it, but I'm too lazy to change it.

Anyway back to the 3d artiness, I'll post when I've got something to show At least in Germany there is no fair use. There is a right to create parodies, but i think creating a real parody of a video game is not that interesting. When you are from USA you can create stuff under fair use, but it may lead to problems anyway. Fair use is a concept many companies do not understand. Since there is no copyright for basic game concepts you would have to clone parts of crysis in all detail to violate copyrights. Just doing a shooter on an isle with aliens or something like this should be totally ok. Wondeful stuff btw

New boss, playing around with transparency and stuff. At least animating this should be easy - make the gloop pulsate and flap the wings, maybe do something with the dangly wires.

It's just in Blender. I had to do some messing with nodes to get the outlines to display right under transparency, but otherwise it's mostly just the built-in stuff. I render out all the animations into a sprite sheet to use in the game - greater detail, less processing (=more enemies/bullets), and I just like the feel it gives everything. Plus I can subsurf the hell out of everything without worrying about poly count.

pro-tip Go visit GraphicAll.org for recent builds and.... . . . All of the extra scripts you could ever want. Look for the addons build of your os and bit type. Thank god for solarlune!
Hurrah! Do I win something? Ha ha. It's cool that Blender ships with a lot of cool add-ons, but if you don't check, you'll never know they exist. Ivy, trees, rocks (I think?), terrain, even exporting from the game engine to an executable - all optional add-ons.

Is this guy very active? I haven't actually seen anything by him, but this one looks great. So I made the mistake of looking at Skyrim. I had to buy it and now I'm making some armour:

Those are great, I really dig! I made this to be a replacement for the courier in DoTA 2 I think it will probably get rejected by Valve, but I had fun making it
