Here's some material geared more toward sessile animal / plant design.

Horseshoe crabs! We have TONS of those around here. As horrible as they look they're quite docile.

I believe this is the colossal squid, another excellent animal.  Interesting fact: nearing the end of its tentacles a colossal squid's tentacles lose their suckers and get hooks instead.  They also team up to attack sperm whales.

Thats a giant squid, not a colossal one, the colossal one is much much larger, and there are no live specimens captured (that i know of).
Incidentally, i find it highly distasteful that the first thing those japanese scientists do upon actually finding one is capturing it and butchering it to boot. Wasnt is enough to just have footage? No, its more important to fatten their curriculum at the expense of that hapless (and rare) creature. Im not sure if that was their original intention, though.

Anyway, im just here to express my love for the Giant Isopod.

They are the kind of eldritch pelagic giant abomination i would want destroying civilization.

Besides, arent they just cute and cuddly?  Giggle

Nektonico, I remember that photo from a story in connection with them finding a colossal squid.

Giant Isopod is quite awesome.

Why not a classic and cuddly "Sparrow Bee"?

Not exactly that shocking or weird/unusual, just big, cruel and one of my favourites.
I saw a classic showing of a merry and small band of these japanese hornets taking out an entire hive of european bees, it's probably been seen, but:

Just a little mixture of Evil, Shocked, Epileptic...

Dinosaurs were 10x more badass before they started giving them feathers. Don't even try to argue science with me. Scientists are even worse than George Lucas when it comes to their fanbase.

That's the one I was going to post. Sad

Oh well. Spider time.

Damselfly

And I love you guys for all the giant arthropods, insects, etc. I do need a fix every once in a while. This is a good thread for my nutty taste in animals.
