Valve!  Cheesy

Just kidding. Telltale seem to be the only ones who have worked out how to do it well, which is a pity since I think there's a lot of potential in episodic games.

You could argue the .Hack games did it first- the games were released very close to each other, telling a continuous story and allowing players to import stats for each character from the previous volume. Never played any of them myself, so I don't know how successful it was, of course.

Seems to mostly be an adventure game thing. Wadjet Eye has been doing it with the Blackwell series, though it skirts the line between "episodes" and "sequels." I'd chalk it up to adventure developers never knowing how to finish a goddamn story.

Also (ha!), Sonic 4.

The BIT.TRIP games probably fit the bill, too, even though there is practically zero story involved.

Same remark with the Pixeljunk series.

Has anyone played Winter Voices? It's on steam and it looks mildly interesting, but I'm not sure I want to drop the 4 quid or whatever it is for the first episode without knowing anything else about it.
