Can't kill child soldiers, 0/10. Not even an in-universe excuse like, if the UN finds out we'd be fucked. Which would be flimsy on it's own but still. All they give you is a, mission will be over if they're hurt. A Hideo Kojima Game i, too, think this is a serious flaw and... oh wait i actually don't and this post is really bad.

That's silly if you can't kill the child soldiers

its not legal in many places to allow violent child murder in video games. theres that practical element to consider alongside your desire to sshoot cyber kids

Child soldier is already a real world sensitive problem so that your little army men that use moe poster to distract guard with his devil horn and his invisible naked friend don't add to injuries. You are not entitle to the desecration of all bodies, they might be representation but they are not your entertainment.

it's upsetting to me when a video game does not feature the ability to commit serious war crimes

I don't want to go around shooting them either, i'm just wondering from a gameplay stand point how the player has to deal with them.
Are they used only in cutscenes? Are they actually in the game and you have to play around them? I don't think it'd be a smart idea to add something that can kill you but you defend yourself

You can't kill them, but I bet Snake can somersault into them for days.

also this game is politically super pertinent to the current global situation It has always tried to be that way, it only exaggerates with the technical/physical feasibilities of its vision at times. But the game doesn't hide its gamey nature while carrying out a real message at the same time. Ironically the game is presented in an entertaining format and you cannot expect every gamer to be mature enough to get the message so it might often fall on deaf ears.

i agree
also after playing this game, peace walker almost feels like a "prototype" for it (and so does portable ops obv). more AAA gamedevs should do this: test out and refine new ideas through a bunch of handheld spinoffs, then release the big polished AAA version of those ideas.

I only don't know whether the profit/effort ratio is big enough to keep big companies alive with smaller games (which are not smartphone games). Otherwise I absolutely agree, it would be a good learning experience.
Not sure about Nintendo here but they are in a special position anyway.

when has nontendo done this?
well all the mario spin off that eventually spat off their own series, nintendo is full of minor series that help build the brand. But yeah quality is generally so high that it looks like main series only. Remember when smash bros was a small title at the end of the n64 cycle? mario kart was a odd stuff when it came out. Wario start off in mario land 2 eventually spat off warioland and wario ware, let's talk about yoshi from mario world, to mario world 2 to yoshi island, with yoshi touch and go as a stop gate, or kirby, with air ride, kirby mass atack, kirby rainbow curse. Even zelda got four sword that sip through minish cap and triforce heroes ... It's spin off upon spin off and spin off of spin off, it's like a literal tree.
