Physics things are always cool- telekinesis and things like that. Being able to move your enemies around or move things at full speed into your enemies is always satisfying.
Don't know if that counts as a powerup or what.

Sure that could be a power-up although Second Sight by Free Radical proved it can be the single most boring power up I so wanted to like that game...

I think the best power up ever has to be the "Spread Shot". In Contra it was a thing of pure beauty and practically an essential tool of survival. In virtually any arcade shooter it is the holy grail, right next to the "Smart Bomb".

I always liked things that allowed you to fly; the Tanuki suit was such a commodity... I always died a little inside when I got hit and lost it after all that effort to get it. I also liked the feather/cape in Mario World... I remember it being tough at first to control the gliding, but once I got it, it was a lot of fun. Grappling hooks like in Megaman were also really cool... but I think I'd still prefer flying.

I never got to grips with the control. I remember in that one level they gave you a huge area to fly around full of coins, so I'd take off and instantly fly face first into the ground collecting maybe 3 coins...I must have broken that poor plumbers nose more times than I'd like to remember...:-(

This is exactly why I loved Super Sonic in Sonic 3 & Knuckles

You had to control the momentum, if you held backwards you would only go up a little then fall slowly. If you dived a little, pressing backwards would make you go up. By alternating gliding and diving, you could keep your height. I usually like invisibility, but it tend to be nerfed when it's available(certain enemies can see you anyway.).

Either flying, gliding, or invisibility.
Or the wall-climbing powerup from Knytt Stories.

Muscle enlargement so that you rip your shirt to shreds just because of your pulsating muscles. I guess that also counts as Attackx2 or something.
