Adventure Gameylicious! I like the colors. It's almost as if they spoke to me.

Yes, it's incredibly cool. Only the upper font feels out of place, too clean, maybe. The lower is cool though. Gotta love the attention to detail too.

Thanks everyone. Yeah... Im thinking about making a small adventure game. The art requirements (both in backgrounds and large 4 directional sprites) is killer though! We'll see. Here is the full background, it is meant to be 2 screens wide:

I would so love to make the jazz music that would play in the background of that scene.

Reminds me of the Blue Casket in Grim Fandango, by the way.

I think, with those colors, mambo or salsa would be more appropriate than jazz.

Your the dude with the sword and you run into people to attack them. The ones with blue circles you can beat the ones with red you can't. Or at least not all in one go. My hope is to make an rpg combined with a mouse dodge the shapes flash game. I wish I could make the characters bigger though I think the art looks better at the bigger size...

PM coming your way! I really need to play Grim Fandango one of these days--- it seems incredibly cool. I'm sure I would like it. That screen alone makes me want to play it RIGHT NOW! hehe. Anyway-- I wasn't expecting such a great reception! I think you guys made my decision for me and this will be my smaller side project to try and submit to IGF this year. Spelunky XBLA comes first and is consuming most of my resources, so I can't plan too epically. (Say, like a giant open world randomly generated adventure game like Heat Line.) hehe. Also, I'm usually pretty burnt out from programming at the end of the day... An adventure game would be good since most of the work is content (Art, dialog, etc...) The actual code part is pretty lightweight. I have some neat ideas for the setting/mechanics/puzzles as well, so it isn't just a standard adventure game. I painted this BG after reading about cartoon BG design over on JohnK's blog. Specifically, taking some color notes from the Samurai Jack backgrounds in this post: http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2008/07/painting-technique-scott-wills.html

haha Definitely inspired by the game, but the gameplay will be quite different. More story-driven and a bit faster.
