I've been wanting to show more pixel work in this thread but haven't had time to gather up any sprites to show, then I realized I could just show a bunch of the backgrounds I've made for my game:

I hope none of these spoil anything, but I thought I’d share some of the bigger full-screen backgrounds I’ve made for various things in my game.
For that bottom one, I actually made a Chrono Trigger-style tileset and then made a continent, warped it, and then made a sky for the top, then did a bad job of making a light gradient. It only has to look legitimate at a passing glance, anyway.

I'm curious to see the bottom one in high res if you have a link. Cool stuff. That's quite a range of styles.

Oh, the bottom one is at it's maximum resolution there, it hasnt been changed in size at all. My game's screen size is 256 x 208 pixels. Thank you for the compliment!

feelin like armstrong might be a little too detailed compared to the others so far, but also since his design is so much simpler than everything else maybe its necessary to do that

idk

This is cool. A bit too red, to me, but still, really cool. Nice work.

@Rakugaki - Sweet BGs. That bottom one's really well-done in particular.

@ggg - I think the point where it becomes difficult to read is the point where there's too many details.

An artwork I made recently for a Xenonauts-related side project on Goldhawk Interactive forums.

That's really great detail especially on the monster, It'd be much easier to appreciate at 200%.

This just in: Trying to make snow look interesting is really fucking hard.

very extremely 100% unsure about sundowner's pose. it feels real stiff and unnatural i should probably just scrap it and start over
although i guess it'd be easy enough to fix up the stiff aspects of it while cleaning it up. its just a boring pose and didn't get pulled off well which hurts it even more i think

oh and armstrong is done

which means just sam is left after sundowner and i'll have all of these finished

The red coat on the original was a really distinctive feature, why did you drop it?

I can't believe you're animating that frog, I'm glad to see you're using it <3
Maybe make his front legs go forward instead of backward, so it feels more natural?

on the contrary--your snow looks great! I especially like the part where the grass is peeking through and the pattern around the cave. Though the shading on the top of the cave and the parts of it that ebb down on the sides of the cave don't show the shape as much as the cave itself does.

Love'n the new style, but could you scale these at all? 1:1 pixel art is always hard to see the details, especially with muted colors. Sundowner's face is mt favorite part. Is this original or are you designing characters?
