It's hard to explain - it's a bit like a really slow IRC conversation with lots of people that you choose to listen to, who are posting really on-topic notes about what they're working on or amusing stuff that's happening. It's kinda cool - just jump in!

I could make 140-character comments about my life or projects, but I assume no one really gives a crap.
However, I have already hit a series of interesting and informative links just by taking a glance at TheIvy's and Derek's feed. Jawesome.
Perhaps I'll start an account and hook it up to source control so that it only posts my random and incomprehensible commit messages. It will make me look productive!

What the hell is Twitter?
I'm serious. It's like some kind of one-liner blog where you post everything about yourself to be show to millions of people worldwide? What's Twitter's purpose?
Yeah, it's a minimal blog, which is somehow popular among regular people. Non-internet-users who nevertheless have an internet connection sign up to read updates from their favourite celebrities. People who don't necessarily have anything interesting to say. And Twitter has a really low user retention rate so after squirting out a few mundane updates most people quit. It's more mainstream than usual, so it's a useful platform for self-promotion for some people, and everyone else kind of followed those guys.

Like Facebook, its a much better experience as your network grows. Preferably with people you know or associate with. It kinda blew up like everything does when Hollywood catches wind, before it was mainly technophiles on there. It's also an acquired taste. My first year on it I barely posted, now I tweet daily and it goes to my Facebook so I get comments on both sides.

for me it's like livejournal, except shorter
i mainly use it now if i have some nice link i want to share or some small thought and if it isn't really worth a new livejournal entry or a new tigsource thread or something; so it's like a collection of short notes and links that i think people might be interested in

I have a love-hate relationship with Twitter (and Facebook). Hate because they sound dumb and essentially are wastes of time, full of people talking about nothing, nothing, NOTHING.
But Love-Love-Love as well because I am trying to make some apps and get some attention and with my tiny crew and tiny overhead, we cannot really afford any real marketing so this kinda stuff is a great foot in the door at least, which requires less than an extreme amount of effort. As y'all know...
I think this type of stuff (marketing-wise) will be far less useful in the near future as it gets more and more bloated and increasingly difficult to sustain visibility on them if you're such a little guy, but for the time being it is definitely viable. Like everything else, we will see how it plays out..

i think my twitter replaced my blog it didn't totally replace mine but i noticed that if i only want to write a short entry or a link to something i now just use twitter, and for longer ones i use livejournal; but it did cut down on my posts to livejournal it seems

I wonder how you manage to find time to develop games.
Information overload is the bane of mankind.
