it's seriously one of the best wii games i think and even better than the first, tho unfortunately only like 5 people bought it haha
i guess one of its problems is that it doesnt really cater to any pre-existing audience. it's too long to be an "arcade"-type game you can play for score and all that jazz and it's too short for the tastes of typical "console gamers" who are biased against "rail shooters" to begin with.

2DS looks cool, if they bring out a XL version I'll probably get one. Also like how they forgot the 2nd thumbstick, haha.

This seems really fucking weird until you realize it's probably very important to get the 3DS under a certain pricepoint to appeal to the Pokemon crowd. It's kind of daunting to spend over two hundred dollars so your kid can play a video game, but I think Nintendo is banking on the fact that by putting Pokemon in your little tyke's hands for under two hundred bucks you'll be a lot more willing to make the plunge.
But gosh, the button placement seems weird. And I hear the screen is actually just one screen separated by plastic.

I think the weirdest thing about holding this is that it has to have a completely different center of gravity than the clamshell design. I don't really think it would feel much different in your hands, despite looking kind of goofy.

No hinged flip-screen? Do the current ones break that often? Reminds me of this

I think it might be less about the hinge breaking as much as reducing manufacturing costs, which Sam alluded to.
Why do people think the button placement is weird? At first glance it looks normal enough to me. I wish the standard 3DS had those Start and Select buttons. I really don't like the flat ones in the standard 3DS.
Moving everything up to the center of gravity seems natural when there's no hinge to design around. It might make the touch screen less thumb-friendly, though. I like how I can usually just thumb over for icons in touch-lite games, like Super Mario. I dunno if you could do that with this design.

The 2DS sounds so much like a parody name that I couldn't bring myself to think it wasn't a joke. I know it's going to be cheaper, child-friendly, and that's fine, but that's not the demographic I necessarily want to see targeted for Nintendo's games. I want to see more engaging, less handholding games on the 3(?)DS, and the entire existence of this product makes me feel like that's not going to happen. Anyway it's just making me lose a little faith in Nintendo's direction and what audience they're trying to appeal to. There will always be good games out there no matter what, just maybe not as many first-party Nintendo ones that are up my alley -- and that's what I was hoping for when I bought a 3DS. Still, Kid Icarus was very good. If there's any hope, it lies in the Sakurai.

kids (or rather parents) are probably their main demographic tho.
the design actually makes sense from that perspective, it looks like a fisher price toy and no hinge means its harder to break (in addition to reduced production costs)

Yep the price has been slash quite enough, that's the main argument But what move nintendo has done since the wii u that didn't felt like jokes? - hey look! screens! not! only one per machine! - hey look no game! - hey look innovation squirels! cat suit! - hey look a new zelda, wind waker HD! - hey look skyward sword! wii sport resort compilation without the polish! - ... - no profit ??

Lower budget kid oriented version, and it's coming out the same day as the new Pokemon game? I think it'll do well.
