It looks kinda just like black smog. I wouldn't have guessed it was a tornado... well, maybe with the sound effects. But I think, given' the quality of the rest of the game's graphics, that you guys could pull off better.

I'm really stoked to hear what comes of this soundtrack, though! Hopefully your musician(s) come up with something memorable and extremely kart-katchy.

what do you think would look more twister-ish?

Well I think it works better at the beginning, when the "twisting" is really clear, but as it thickens, it seems to sort of lose the sense that it's twisting, and looks more like the whole thing is just spinning. Maybe if you increased the puffs' radius at a greater rate and spread them out a bit, it might have a more suitable effect.

Then again, I might just be drunk. Am I the only one seeing this? If so, please just ignore me :D

Yeah, just looks like black smog to me too.  I think keeping a more coherent form and making the texture seem to twist around the shape more strongly might help it.  You also might want to look at the twisters in the

in mario kart ...

yea, those ones are done with polygons so they are much more defined. That would be easy to do as well. I will see if more people have the same opinion.

spent some more time on the particle effect, It looks much more like a solid pile of twisting stuff now than some smoggy gas.

I think that dark puffy cloud sprite is just the wrong shape to use to build a twister?  I mean, if the air is moving fast enough to make a twister, you wouldn't expect nice puffy clouds like that.  Also I feel like twisters are usually made from white clouds, which could help disambiguate it from smog.

It'd probably be a complete overhaul, but I say make the twister more human(meanaign eyes in the twister). Think of the enemies in the Mario games for reference.

Twisters should have more "lines" than puffy clouds. Also a bit of derbris inside wouldn't hurt either.

yea, I wanted to be quick and just use particles - but I see your guys point so I modeled a quick spinning mesh that wobbles a little bit back and forth - I am going to try and get that hooked up with just the debris part of the particle, I think that should be much more recognizable. The spinning lines do make more sense from a cartoon perspective.

made a pretty big blog post about the WAR ON FRAMERATE (tm) that we have been undertaking the last week and a half. It lists a lot of the things we have been tackling specifically - but this is the real sweet screen shot for us personally - 2 weeks ago my computer with as many people on screen here would have been chugging at around 15-20 fps. Now it is over 60! Huzzah!

 Shocked

 Beer! Beer! Beer!

Cheers! That's quite the accomplishment! Awesome to know this game won't just be beautiful and fun, but also silky smooth fast at the same time Smiley
