I am an undergraduate student working on my dissertation about rewards in games. I have created a survey to gather some initial information, I have dressed it up as a facebook quiz about FarmVille. I would appreciate it greatly if you could take the time to fill it out, and even better if you would not mind sharing the result on your wall. The survey is available here. After collecting data with the survey I will create a game which focus on one aspects of rewards, and post it on Kongregate. I recently handed in a piece of course work that detailed the project further. It is available here.

You do not need facebook to fill it out. It is not created as an app and it is placed my own site.

I was one of the few who didn't play Farmville, hence I am a "No-Farmer".

I'm exactly the same as Accidental Rebel.
Never played Farmville, nor do I have a Facebook, so I'm a "No-Farmer."

You're probably not going to get a very good sample spread from TIGSource.

I was one of the many TIGers who didn't play Farmville, hence I am a "No-Farmer".

What sort of "rewards" are you studying? There are many good resources on game design and the psychology behind play if that is what you are looking into, ie positive and negative reinforcement.

Thanks to all the people that filled the questionnaire so far NO-FARMERIt is not a problem that people have not played FarmVille. Part of the survey is to look at the correlation between what people find rewarding at what they play. SOURCES:My main source is the social scientist Alfie Kohn and his book Punished by Rewards. He looks at intrinsic rewards as that coming from performing an activity and the extrinsic rewards as any stimulus outside of the activity. He argues a long range of detrimental effects mostly coming from the extrinsic rewards. I plan to apply his theory and will most likely test for one of the negative effects originating from rewards. The source that best summarize my project in general is a talk I found quite far into the project. It is lecture by Chris Hecker. Other sources: GDC talks, TED talk by Dan pink, Jonathan Blow Lectures, Nicole lazzaro's 4 types of fun, Skinnerian theory, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi theory of flow, and many more. If you are interested all my sources are listed here. Where possible a link to the content is included. If any one should have a good source that I have missed please post it here

Guys, guys. I'm sure martinf isn't doing every dirty thing in the book just to get an initial data set. This can't be a scam survey. It's neither asking for my cell phone number nor promising me fake money and sweet, sweet extra clicks.

But yeah, I don't really think its a scam because no personal information was asked from me. :D
