I would like to present my newest game:

TOTTENHAM

Overview

The Underground (subway) lines must be upgraded.  Using explosive charges, clear a path from the start (green blinking tile) to the end (red blinking tile).  Once a path is cleared, touch the end tile to lay the line.  Also, all pests (rapidly blinking tiles) in the area must be eliminated before laying the line.

Be careful while using your explosive charges; both the explosion and the jettisoned tiles will hurt you.

Controls

Arrow Keys:  Move around, navigate menu
<SPACE>, <ENTER>, <CTRL>, <X>, or <Z>:  Fire explosive charge, select menu items, advance cutscenes
<M>:  Toggle audio
<ESC>:  Return to menu, exit game

Notes

I was inspired by the mosaics of Sir Eduardo Paolozzi (installed at the Tottenham Court Road London Underground station) to make this game.  Due to current Underground line upgrades at the station, many of these mosaics will have to be removed and/or relocated.

This game was made with Game Maker 8 Pro.

music stopping during text screens feels jarring, considering that there's only one track

This was done on purpose; it is supposed to be somewhat jarring.

What did you think of other aspects of the game?

Nice concept... I get this when starting up though:

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Create Event
for object girl_quote:

Error defining an external function.

I have noticed some people getting this error with some of my other games that use the BGM and BASS dll's.  I really have no idea what causes this; I think it might be with the DLL's themselves, or how some computers run DLL's (maybe adjust administrator settings?).

I really liked it. The game had some unique mechanics, but they worked very well together. It reminded me of an early arcade or Atari game. One of the good ones, that is. Smiley

Unable to play the game for the same reason as Ed. Unfortunately I don't have any other computers to try it on either Concerned

Oh, I finally remembered to test on my other PC, where it works fine. Not sure what to try to diagnose the issue on the laptop...
Only played to level three so far but I like how it feels. Great music too Smiley

When I first saw the Tottenham Court Road mosaics, this is what I though of too, although the mosaics are very abstract and only rarely are representational.

Maybe just try running it again, after a restart or something.  I noticed this problem once on my own computer actually (with a different game that used the same DLL's, but it worked fine after a restart.
