what about a standard donation system rather than a kickstarter. seems like a much smarter option since there is no hard time limit. You can still have a reward scheme as well, just you have to do it manually.

Hmm, if you don't have a job, funding won't help you as living cost would eat up all your money(unless you are living with your parents, which is also a viable funding XD).
But yea, work takes a lot of time and it's not always fun\fair. :/
If you are making all the artwork\code\whatever yourself(and with your team), then you really just need to not be a homeless to develop your game.
Of course everything is easier when you have more money.
