Hi everyone:

I've been working on a lot of tile-based games and thought I'd write up a series of tutorials on things I've learned. Looking through the forum, I see a lot of procedural generation stuff, but nothing specifically about line of sight in tile games, so I'll start there. I noticed that there were several requests for roguelike game tutorials in the requests: this should be applicable to a simple roguelike.

Funny you should post this, I was just checking out your 7DRL and looking around for Python roguelike tutorials. Nice work, keep it up! I'm curious if you've looked at the libtcod library at all?

Yeah, libtcod looks nice. They implement 4 types of field of view algorithms: the raycasting technique they use is augmented with a de-artifacting process as described here. I'm planning on implementing the de-artifacting in my game, so I'll make a part 2 to this tutorial and give out some tips on how to do it.

Well this seems to have completely disappeared. Does anyone know of any other good tutorials for line of sight?

P.S. you might want to start a new thread next time unless there's a really good reason to necro the old one
