Working on the terrain lighting for a procedural volcano generation project. The volcano will be generated seperately on top of a given landscape, with parameters for height, angles, crater placement etc.

Now I have shaders working on it I will increase the resolution of the height map but display the extra detail through normal map rather than polygons (at the moment it's just a really high res mesh). Hopefully it'll look super sharp.

This is my final uni project ... Shocked

That's cool Terry, nice to see you're going somewhere with Papervision. There's a certain atmosphere in that already now! (BTW how is working with PV? I've been pondering doing some 3d stuff in Flash, but I'm not sure...)

@Ishi: Procedural volcanoes, pretty awesome. So will you also do lava and stuff, or only the quiescent volcano?

I've made some progress on my 3D thingie. Some flat shading goes a long way I think:

Uhh... not at all yet, I'm afraid. I'm envisaging a very-high-speed 3D racer, where the main objective is to make it through the track alive.

I originally wanted to do lava and smoke but I don't have time so I'm focusing on just inactive volcanoes, but with a decent set of parameters to make it flexible and useful.

Matias, Muku, Ishi, Andy, and everyone else: Kiss

Haven't posted in this for a while, so though I'd show the results of this new library I've been messing about with:

Play it here! It's a 3D walkabout thingy in flash.

I so wish I had the brains to do 3d in flash...

It's pretty cool! Though I don't really have a lot to compare it too; I haven't done very much in "real" 3D before - this is pretty much my first attempt.

Isn't Papervision really slow?

Yeah, kinda - but not as slow as you might think. There seems to be a lot you can do with it if you're willing to work around its constraints.

Terry, that looks great and it runs okay on my crappy laptop! I look forward to a "Revenge of Judith" on Kongregate any day now! :D  (srsly though, a judith-esque game would be nice in flash)

Progress was made. Still early stages on the volcano side but I got some ghetto GUI in. Also got normal maps in so most of the detail there is through that rather than polys.
