 - Jan 20: Fixed ending level and added some textures from oryx
 - Jan 17: Bugfixes and additions
 - Jan 14: Fixed a bunch of bugs and balance issues, added windows build
 - Jan 10: Compo build

There are still numerous issues, most notably the lack of ending. I will hopefully add it in the next few days.

Original post:
------------------

I decided to be incredibly original and make a roguelike. Please forgive me, but I just couldn't resist.

Using:
Oddball's small offerings
Oryx - LOFI Fantasy 2D/3D
Rynen10k's font
Blot's Chiptunes
Stian Stark Retro SFX Pack
Saros' thingamabobs
BigLon's Thread o' Stuff

Nice! Reminds me of Radix's unfinished 3D Zelda fangame in some respects.

Look's spiffy. I love how well oldschool and modern graphics can combine sometimes. 3d roguelikes are pretty rare, so at least it's somewhat unique.

Sexy.

Also, the walls look a little low. Like they're at head-height to the character.

And what are you using to make this??

The walls are low cause i don't want to make the camera rotatable, so you'll have to be able to see yourself behind them. And it's more true to Oddball's original 2d mockup.

And I'm using my own unity-like engine Smiley

Sweet, I love this 2.5d style!

Also, does this mean substance is almost ready for prime time?  Looking forward to seeing a new version!

Ooh, looks nice!  Is this still going to be turn based like standard roguelikes or real time?

Realtime! With hilarious procedural walking animations  Gentleman

Also, switched over to vertex lighting from per-pixel. You can hardly tell the difference though, which is a shame, I was hoping for it to look suddenly more old school. Oh well.

Same, looks absolutely awesome, but I dislike that texture.

On another note, you planning to use any of the 3D assets submitted, or are you just going to stuff in the 2D stuff instead? :D

Yeah the textures I'm gonna work on.

Here's a quick movement test video:

Love the movement.

For a more old-school look, why not just render the 3d maze in lower resolution and colour? I did a mock-up and it looked okay.
